    Hi Folks,

Visited Locomotion the other day and have subsequently attempted to make a fairly comprehensive list of the exhibits on view that day. However, three of them continue to elude me. Can anyone identify the following bits, all of which I presume are parts of the National Collection?

    Many thanks
    Adrian

    1. Which hopper is this? It's marked "H26" but that's about all...

    2. What's the ID of the well-wagon underneath the steamer?

    3. Which dismantled loco is hiding behind No. Tanker 512? Looks like an 0-6-0, maybe?

Could the Loco be Eustace Forth? (RS&H No.7063), that's an NRM one of the right sort of appearance?

    Nah, it's "Merlin", Peckett 1967 of 1939.

The well wagon has since been lettered fully too.

I'm intrigued that we have deep dark corners though...

No, it's always been at Shildon, sorry. Well, since 2003 at least.

    Hi Folks,

    A quick follow-up question, if I may?

Which of the LNWR Royal train vehicles did I see when I visited in late 2011? I've narrowed it down to either LMS 800 or 801 (King Edward's or Queen Alexandria's Saloon), but can't decipher which one. The vehicle in question also has '46' at one end.

    Thanks in advance!
    Adrian

    Hi Anthony,

Many thanks for such a quick reply. Just out of interest, what does the '46' signifiy?

    Cheers

What is the narrow gauge loco? Visited about a month ago and there's a real lack of signage for the exhibits, although as an enthusiast I knew most of the main line company locomotives, I really struggled with the un-signed industrial locomotives, non-steam (apart from the ES1 and Waterloo & City loco's which were signed) and rolling stock

We are working on the missing interpretation panels with the help of the FNRM North East branch, 5 new ones are in process. There are two narrow gauge locos, the Hudswell mines diesel from Ellington Colliery and the Hunslet tank loco from Sierra Leone, on loan from the Welshpool and Llanfair Railway - and for which a new display is being developed too.

Thanks - good to hear it's being worked on. I was able to 'cab' the ES1 on my Easter visit although wasn't able to get as many photos as I wanted as it was rather popular and I didn't Want to get in the way of other visitors - will it be open again often in the future?

Yes, when there are staff available the cab is open. Tell me when you want to visit and I'll see what the possibilities are.

It has been suggested that this might be a candidate to become part of the National Collection and Anthony could give an update on what is planned for this wagon BR H 26 Coal Hopper built 1949
