Great news on the F5! I do hope they'll run her in her GER livery some day. I donated to this project some months ago and so it's gratifying to see real progress being made. Cutting the frames is a very significant stage and no doubt a huge psychological barrier overcome for the fellows behind this.

In my opinion engines such as this, that is small pre-grouping tanks, goods (6 coupled) and express engines (four-coupled) of which so many failed to make it into preservation are ideal candidates for heritage rail; not least for their suitability to the permanent-way of most heritage lines, their relative complexity to say an A1 pacific or P2 Mikado which factors into the cost of manufacture, maintenance and operation. And a pre-grouping livery is a joy to behold in my opinion (while also affording the opportunity for 'Big-Four' and possibly BR liveries as well).

A great achievement, here's to them joining the other new builds within the next decade or so, completed and in steam.

Congratulations to the F5 group! A major step forward. Looking through your website it seems you have many other fabrications and assemblies already which is always a bonus.

No they did genuinly make a public announcement that they were planning a 100% copper boiler in an attempt to improve steaming...

Hence the lack of seriousness their project receives on here.

Yes the J39 group did do that, but it was ONLY the J39 group, yet some people on here seem hell bent on tarring all the other groups with the same brush.

As a matter of fact the people on L1 group are having nothing at all to do with the people on the J39 or V3 group, and in fact the person responsible for the V3 group is busy copying and pasting posts from the L1 group and using them as his own!! So they are as fed up with it all as you people are.

Rest assured the ones behind the L1 group are going to go about it in a different way to the others. So please please stop lumping them in with J39 and V3 as they are totally separate to them. Thanks.

I really don't think so. Trust me, the people building 82045 know more about steam locomotives than any of the armchair experts that may post on this forum.

Moreover, of all the new build projects 82045 in the credibility stakes is up there with the best of them.

Boldford (sorry...habits from the SVR forum die hard...) it was the J39 group who intended to use an entirely copper boiler at one cringeworthy moment in their genesis, and to whom lil Bear was referring. The credibility of 82045 has never been questioned on here to my knowledge.

Whilst I don't wish to knock such spirited efforts on the head I cant help but feel that such efforts may be better channelled into a local railway near where they live.
