Why can't you comment in public. Unlike the the misfortunes of "a certain new build", there is no likelihood of contractual liability in the case of 2857's problems. It is just one of things.

I can't comment in public because I haven't been down to see 28' since the issue was discovered and so am only aware of the issue second hand, and have limited details. I don't want to say anything in a public domain until I know first hand, until I've talked to the paid staff guys that will be/are doing the work, so that I know it is correct.

Nothing contractual or legal, just a bit of respect for the folks whose livelihoods we discuss on these pages.

Yes. 9th May is the planned date of the move to the SVR, but could change at the last minute. I hope that photos / video are taken, so that I, and others, can see the arrival of the locomotive.

Has the loco actually been steamed as a complete engine, or is that going to happen at the SVR?

As far as I know it has not been steamed as a complete engine no. Herston is simply a restoration and maintenance facility (although a very good one) so all running in and niggle issues will be dealt with at BH, as I understand it.

    SKP arrived 10 May

42968 - Stanier Mogul, Ex LMS - the boiler inspector has issued an extension on 42968’s boiler to 10 January 2013 (approx six months). Extension is subject to washout frequency increased to every 21 days instead of usual 30 days. Continuation in service is obviously dependant on there not being any major defects accruing in the interim period (SVRA forum)

    Serviceable 42968, 7812, 4566, 5164, 43106

    Engines not available for use:

    2857 Boiler repairs
42968 Washout and boiler exam from Tuesday
34053 SR Bulleid Battle of Britain, 'Sir Keith Park' - arrived Bridgnorth 10/5/12 - awaiting commissioning

Excellent news, hopefully nothing major will slow it down. I hope to see it for myself sometime this weekend. Nice pics as well.

The Betton Grange Society has already taken posession of 4156's wheels which have now being retyred at Buckfastleigh and are awaiting delivery to Llangollen for use under 6880. See news item published today... WHEELS NOW RE-TYRED | Betton Grange 6880
I have not heard any mention of a swap with 7325.

Just stopped off at Bridgnorth whilst passing and lovely to see 34053 simmering outside the shed.

David, that post is from a couple of years ago. I think that might have been the original plan assuming 7325 could come out of the engine house for the swap to happen. As it hasn't, the decision was taken to give the spare set to 6880.

I also had a quick look yesterday afternoon and she looked stunning. Chatting to one of the volunteers, apparently still has a few finishing touches to complete (including a drivers seat needed!) and some lining out of paintwork, but as yet no major issues have been found. Should be ready for tests very soon and all going well enter service in a couple of weeks, she is really needed!

thanks can't say I read HR, be a real shame if it didn't go mainline but very good for SVR.
