The WSR Autumn Gala will mark the 50th Anniversary of the ending of long-distance through trains over the much-missed Somerset & Dorset line.
The first confirmed visiting loco for the gala is BR 9F 2-10-0 no 92203 now named the Black Prince, and owned by artist David Shepherd.
This is likely to be the first steam gala with turning facilities at both ends of the line fully operational.

Given the S&D through trains theme of the gala how about letting 92203 loose on a 12 coach train say as a special one evening, when passing loop length doesn't matter? The 9Fs handling 12 coach through trains was an aspect of the S & D that was a feature.

WSR Galas usually feature 9 or 10 engines, and I think it very unlikely that these would all be S&D types. But 34046, 53808 and 92203 and possibly 2-3 other appropriate visiting engines are likely. The rest will be probably GW engines from the home fleet.

  6. Planning team are hoping to run the "Pines" complete with 4-car restuarant section and 92203 up front.

    75029, 73129, 44422, a couple of unrebuilts and a rebuilt and we're away.
Hire in a maroon rake off the mainline (not West Coast. YUK!) Maybe get some red and creams as well. It would be nice to see a Gresley buffet and an LMS coach. Seeing as it's a Pines event as apposed to an S&D event, what about having Scotts Guardsman and running a recreation of the leg of the Pines before Bath Green Park.

A Stockton & Darlington event, I wouldn't have thought the West Somerset would go for that theme. Is Locomotion visiting?

Or is it a S&DJR event?

  9. :) It's a event based on the last years of the S&D (as in Somerset and Dorset Railway) :)

Insulting West Coast is probably not the best thing to do if you want to see Scots Guardsman.

plus spelling the engine's name correctly . Only SRPS has a Maroon main line rake (I Think)

I'd also go for 73050 as opposed to 73129 as 73050 was a Bath engine

Everyone calls it the S&D when they are talking. It's pretty obvious what I meant.

It's not the same shade of maroon as it should be. The lining is wrong. The ends are painted maroon instead of black. There is no British Railways logo. "West Coast Railways" is written on the side.

its all good advertisment for themselves...
Why get a rake of maroon off the mainline? there are many preserved lines with maroon stock, ELR, KWVR etc.
aye up though: williamfj2 Good idea!!! Lets have a stockton and darlington gala on the same weekend somewhere up here in teh north! Be a good mix for some people! xD

In other words, WCRC have done what other TOCs do and painted their own stock in their own livery.

Yes and that's fine but it isn't maroon. That's all I'm saying and I think I'm entitled to the view and expression of that view that I don't think it an attractive livery. I also think it a little tasteless to use it on steam-hauled excursions where more appropriately liveried rolling stock would suite the motive power.
All I was originally saying was that, if the line were to (and I'm sure they won't) hire in any mainline stock, I personally would rather it weren't West Coast.

The SRPS set is a darker shade of maroon, plus has SRPS Railtours on the sides. Not as prominent as WCRC logos and names, but still noticable.
