I noticed that Wikipedia states in the list of surviving L&Y Locomotives that the petrol shunter No 1, presumably a Motor Rail, survives - does anyone know where it is? The only reference I can find to it is this 1977 archive of the Chasewater Railway

    yea,
it was a good little thing that,
i remember driving it at chasewater a time or two, it had a dorman 7 litre 4 cyl engine with a magneto ignition and hand crank start.
it did 1 mile to a gallon of juice and had an exhaust whistle. It was damned fast too.
It was dismantled for restoration and the pikeys nicked most of it with a hiab over the fence a few years ago now.
the wheels survive and the L&Y plate but the chassis and cast body was lost.
the engine and gearbox may be still there but i am not sure.
they do intend to try to replace the motorail chassis and body parts and effectively re-create it AFAIK.
