And I know JUST the line to host it - sadly well away form Southern territory - THE GCR it would be perfect ( think about it!) all that double track action you wouldn't know which way to turn or which engines were facing which way.

Though I think that next year they may just be going to concentrate on all things LNER which is only right.

Still, it doesn't mean that it couldn't happen in the near future - give various parties time to get a few loco's overhauled eg City of Wells, 92 Squadron and maybe a few others as well to join in the fun and add a splash of colour to the occasion with various livery variations - BR Blue anybody?

Surely a Bulleid gala needs to take place on the former Southern region of BR. What about incorporating the opening of the East Grinstead extension with a Bulleid gala. Now that would completely max out the Bluebell. Surely that would be a win win situation for the bluebell.

That was a great event at the Bluebell. I remember it well. I got so carried away that I left rather late for the long drive back to Hampshire!
I hope that a big Bulleid gala does happen whilst the opportunity is there in the near future.

Why not the MHR? It would be great to see some mainline Bulleids such as 35028 and 34067 etc coming into Alton and meeting some resident and non-resident non-mainline certified Bulleids. What an opportunity it would be and to see.... Now that makes me drool! Imagine once 35005 is overhauled back to working order paired with sister locomotive 35006 from the GWR.

Hey it was ONLY a suggestion - I was just thinking of the different possibilities the double track provides!

Anyway, I'd already mentioned that it should be something the MHR might want to run with for next year - whether they do or not is entirely up to them, but it WOULD be nice!

I wasn't running your idea down. It sounds like a great idea and would be well attended.

I think it would be absolutely mobbed! s o d the hire in fees it would do better than SSS!

Something passing you every 10 minutes or so - it would certainly be a unique experience .............................

especially if a main line tour using 34067 on the down to Alton where she can come off and return le to Southall And you could hire in either 35028 or 34046 to work during the gala and take the return working through to Waterloo piloted on the MHR section by 31806 the run from Alton to Alresford has got to be with 2 unrebuilds , 34070 and 34007 , would that do?

You could equally say Swanage as they have two Bulleids based their plus 257 Squadron at Herston!

GCR would be a good one, and would provide me with an excuse to make a trip there. Shame they don't have up and down local lines as well; it could have been an excellent cameo of Woking-Basingstoke. But Bulleids on 'express' passengers going straight from Loughborough to Leicester North, with others doing local 'stoppers' or semi-fasts and some in Swithland sidings on demonstration goods waiting their turn on the running line. You could even have the token 'Withered Arm' service of a Bulleid with a single carriage running tender-first! Magic...

Considering that this thread covers every Bulleid Pacific that ever existed and is used for all discussions about every preserved example, that's perhaps not a surprise. Most other locos seem to have a thread to themselves.

Swithland signalling would need to be completed and commissioned for some of the activities that you have described. I don't know the target date for completion - it looks to be a pretty extensive project, but there's always signs of significant progress having been made every time I visit.

The last time 34067 could of run on MHR metals the owner wouldn't allow her to work past the main line gate at Alton. This was back in July 2007 End of Southern steam gala. The most memorable event was when 35005 took rail tour train from Alresford to Alton unassisted.

That driver is certainly well known at the MHR! 35008 is his favourite. He can handle any Bulleid! I certainly remember that day as I was down there for a treat; rather than on the footplate.
I have photos & Video waiting for 35005 to come out of the headshunt at Alresford (With if I remember 10 on)
That was a fab getaway from M4M! A few little slips; but with that load, well controlled like the good ole days...

Awestruck enthusiast: "You do realise that you've done the ton with Orient Line, which is reputedly the worst of the lot?" Driver in question: "Just give me the best one!" (or some variation on the theme).
