Around 40 mins late at East Midlands Parkway. Shame, I'm just east of Melton Mowbray and it's a glorious sunset. Would've looked nice if it had been on time (well, revised times). Oh well, 150 round trip for nothing!

I don't feel so bad now; I only had a wasted 10 mile round trip. Waiting at Belper from 1730, guard of the 1805 to Matlock told us he understood that the departure from Rowsley was 1900, and I didn't have time to wait that long, so back home after filming an HST, Voyager, a 66 and an EMT unit.

And Belper Station was bathed in beautiful wasm sunlight too

    :-(

Thought that I would mention that RTC have sent out a letter with full details of the various tales of woe suffered by this tour which is much appreciated. I am of the opinion that s**t can and does happen on occasion but it helps a great deal when people are kept informed regarding problems with as much detail as possible, which RTC did on the day as well.

TBH, when we were advised of the reason for stopping at Oakleigh Park and New Barnet I thought that might be the end of the tour so I was very pleased that it could continue though will admit that I was in the fortunate position of still being able to get home at midnight and no need to get up early on Monday.

Any chance of a summary of the letter?

    Would be much appreciated.

Not too many videos/photos of this train. I guess everyone got fed up of waiting.

"The train was delayed after leaving Southall depot enroute to King Cross due to a problem with an overhead cable and a points failure. The decision was made to avoid Kings Cross station and start the train instead from Finsbury Park to prevent any delay in departing London.

"Shortly after departing Finsbury Park there was a blow back on the steam locomotive, which led to burns for the fireman and another member of the locomotive support crew, they were transferred to hospital in Srevenage by ambulance. Fortunately there was another trained fireman on board, meaning that we could continue our journey to Rowsley steam hauled, however we were further delayed by this incident.

"Unfortunately there was not scope to make a great deal of the lost time back, resulting in a return time to London Kings Cross of 23.45. We therefore made arrangements for those who wished to and had onward travel arranged from Kings Cross to take a service train back from Derby to enable them to still make their onward connections."

Thanks for summarizing the letter malc, I hadn't forgotten - just had a busy couple of days.

No chance of getting my photos taken at Rowsley uploaded for a couple of days but meanwhile, here is one from a friend who is a little more organised than me
