A moment to remember for all those connected with 6201 as the "train" (the BBC's word, not mine!) stood on a railway bridge over the Thames this afternoon and greeted the Royal party as they left to join the Royal barge for the flotilla procession.

BBC commentary included a mention for the Princess Elizabeth Locomotive Society.

Clive and his team must be so proud of that moment, and what a coup for them, ably assisted by the VT team, West Coast. I suppose a bit of praise must also go to NR as well for allowing it to happen.

If there's something more cringeworthy than TV presenters not knowing the difference between a train and a locomotive, it's their failure to grasp the metric system...

There were a few boats referred to as ships too - equally cringeworthy!

In the Royal Navy a "boat" is always a submarine! All other vessels are, well, surface craft or vessels!

Maybe we should just accept this "language change" that creeps into everyday use? A "railway station" tends to be a "train station" now. Another word I have heard used--I think at the Leveson inquiry--was "segway", in the context of something "following on" or "as a consequence of"... No idea what it means, beyond being one of those two-wheel transporter things.

You are thinking of [h=2]segue [/h]

to move easily and without interruption from one piece of music, part of a story, subject or situation to another His performance of 'Alison' segued into a cover version of 'Tracks of My Tears'.

Not to be confused with Segway Segway – The leader in personal, green transportation

RalphW: Thankyou! You learn something new.. well, "most" Days!!

Back on topic, it is good to see 6201 gettings some mainline hours in. There were times a while ago when the loco didn't appear to do too much.

6201 was a damn fine sight, well done to all concerned and a special thumbs up to Network Rail. They take a hell of a lot unnecessary flack. Sure, they have their faults but getting that locomotive into that position for that spectacle (the pictures went all over the world) should be applauded. Well done.:clap2:

It just goes to show how much notice the press takes of my press-releases! lol

Wish just one channel had made the connection between 6201 and HRH - ie: The steam locomotive on the bridge is 6201 "Princess Elizabeth", built in 1933 and named after the young Princess who a few years later became Queen Elizabeth who's 60 year reign we are celebrating today.

Can I get a job as a TV presenter? lol

Well as mentioned, as the commentator couldn't make the distinction between a train and an engine (locomotive), I doubt he had bothered to read your press release Ben, assuming it had been given to him in the first place of course! Later he referred to HMS Belfast as being 90000 tons!

The whole coverage of the pageant by the BBC stank anyway, but they did get the bit about 6201 approximately correct. We could have done with some better camara angles, but at least she was there and seen by the world.
