Yes, it was a cracking way to spend a Saturday. Worth the wait at Blackbrook, the DMU up to Consall was nostalgic, the Ind Coope Burton's was a good pint, and the stroll along the canal back to Froghall was interesting too. Glad you suggested it p/wayman, cheers!

Wow! Seems we were the only ones at Blackbrook today then. I was there for the afternoon trip and again, no one else there.

Nice little loco, but is it having problems? It was half an hour late arriving and it pulled up dead just before the crossing for a few minutes.

    This is my effort;-

It was all the excitement of seeing steam again up the Cauldon the mist decended in more ways than one.

Not at all, I have no conscience whatsoever, guilty or otherwise. Just commenting on your past negativity on the CVR/MCR. And by the way I have nothing to do with either, just enjoy going there.

Don't know if folk from CVR/MCR are aware but yesterday (4th June) I saw a number of People walk down the line at Leekbrook. Saw 3 people doing this within half an hour. This seems to happen alot by the looks of things. When I pass by to Photo the train I always see one or two folk doing what the man is doing below.

Very rarely happens for me Frank and I call there every time I go the CVR and only once saw a family go into the tunnel, just as a train was coming through!!

I think if they had not blocked the through access from the road there to the junction side, people would stick to the road and paths.

It is a big blocker when people are used to walking from one side of the junction to the other.

The railway has been open to Leekbrook for years now, and there are no public footpaths around the junction area, so no excuse as far as I can see. Still lots of walkers with/without dogs on the Stoke branch down to Endon, so they will need re-educating soon too.

No, what I meant by 'blocking' is in the past, before the MCR started to redevelop the junction, you could walk from the crossing, along the road towards the signal box and walk through to the Stoke/Leek/Cauldon lines. This has been a regular walking 'shortcut' for many years, although it is not a public footpath. So when the area was developed, there is now a big gate blocking this through-path at the end of the road, just before the signalbox.

So faced with a 'dead-end' that always used to be open, people are probably walking along the line to get through this blockage (when the track gate is open).

Maybe if as David Kemp says, they will still provide a walkway alongside the line whne the Stoke branch is done, perhaps it will be good public relations to allow this through route again too, to discourage line trespass. Just my views. I'm not a local resident there.

We did the Cauldon line walk today, 2 teams one from Cauldon, the other from Apesford. With the trains running up there it was 4 men teams with one being the lookout. It turned out that the Dmu ran up today with the N7 on the CVR duties. We having the shorter walk 3.25 mls. thought if we only took a 5 min drink and 15 min lunch we might catch the DMU on its 2nd trip at Leek Brook. We just made it and the thought crossed my mind the we could be the first people to have a request stop to from Leek Brook up to Cauldon Lowe and back. Super views from DMU and to cap it all we passed the other crew who still had a mile to go. Good job both teams coping with some intermittent showers.
A mixture of photos today, the 5th one is of the other crew in the distance.
