Information about Nunney Castle's tyre problems, reported on the News page of Nunney's web site
I feel very sorry for the support group. Tyres have recently been difficult things to source, and if the South African factory is out of use at the moment, it could be several months before before the loco is back in action.

What other sources are there for loco tyres now? Where do Polish or German locos get their tyres from, for example?

Unfortunate for this to happen to 5029 but as said the Tyres needed replacing sooner than later anyway, looks like its up to the Earl to fly the flag for Castles until the summer.

Would the likes of Meinegen (or however it's spelt) produce their own Tyres ?.

Seems there has been a fall out between the Support Crew and Locomotive Services Ltd, report on the 5029 website Nunney Castle.

Their website Meiningen Steam Locomotive Works mentions wheels and axles but not specifically tyres.

I take it Loco Services Ltd is Mr Hoskings company ?, reading the website events seem unfortunate but I suppose an owner reserves the right to do as he wishes with his asset.

This at the bottom of the statement interests me though

I presume it is the bogie being referred to here ?.

I questioned about this a while ago and the wheels have been borrowed to help wheel it around the yard and to keep it in place. Not to stay on permanently :)

Another company advertising production of wheels and tyres is Interlok whose works is at Pila in Poland. I assume both this establishment and Meiningen have been investigated by UK loco owners and rejected on grounds of cost or quality as the SA supplier is the one usually mentioned?

Will 5029 be ready for the Weymouths in 26 days time? Personally i would not mind seeing 5043 work the train, just hope Nunneys ok soon.

5043 i suspect will only work Vintage Trains Tours so is unlikely to be seen on the Weymouths

    Couldn't they borrow wheels from 7029 or 5080 or 4079 ?

I would doubt they could borrow off 5080 with it being a static display, The other two, I dunno, I just got told on the facebook group

7029's have been retyred and will be back under/ going back under the engine . Isn't there an issue with all the axleboxes and journals being in effect set up for the original wheelsets

That reason was given when "Eddystone" failed on the NYMR a few years ago, but it then went to the Bluebell where a quick swap was effected using the wheels from "Sidmouth", seemingly without problems

I don't suppose it'll be the last. When you look at some of the personalities involved it's not so surprising.

Wouldn't that make it more suitable then ? - it aint going anywhere.. It could sit on 5029's until the tyres arrive at least.
Surely better than wasting a year in the life of the boiler tubes, and lost revenue ?

34046 is one of the booked engines (if it is ready in time). As 34067 is currently down for doing some of the Plymouth trips during the summer, maybe this will take up the strain? Potentially a good summer for Southern steam off-piste (ie. north of Dorchester Junction) if that is the case. The only fly in the ointment where 34067 doing Bristol-Weymouth is concerned is the DCEs. We'll have to see what happens.
