TVR 28 seems to fit the bill then.

28 is an O1, 85 an O2. I am not exactly sure what the differences are - it's in the detail, I believe. 28 is possibly a special case however. Having spent so many years dismantled her best shot of a future is as a working locomotive, at least for a period of time.

28's particular significance is that it is the last surviving Welsh built (standard gauge) loco.

(Also 85 is a very long way from Wales!)

I'd love to see the classic MR pairing of Kirtley 2-4-0 No. 158A and Johnson Spinner No. 673/118. It would be an even greater pleasure to see them go mainline on the S&C too, but that's just a pipe dream.

Twenty years ago, the SRPS had to opportunity to return Glen Douglas to steam, and perhaps even to the main line. I find it completely bewildering that the SRPS failed to raise the cash, given how many enthusiasts before or since have called for members of the "Scottish quartet" to return to steam. Now she has returned to Glasgow and the opportunity has been lost.

I think there's a moral in this: it's all very well making lists of engines we'd like to see in steam, but if we're not prepared to back up our requests with hard cash, it won't happen!

If only Steam Railway had run a appeal for Glen Douglas...I'm sure that would have done the trick!

I would love to see 33001 in steam again in BR livery at the MHR. Perhaps when 850 runs out of ticket the NRM could be persuaded to let the Q1 out again?

I would like to see the charming ex S and M loco 'Gazelle' running again, complete with passenger compartment on the coal bunker and available for charter on the national network.

Failing that, 'Aerolite' complete with Directors Saloon, ditto.

The mainline suggestion was tongue in cheek, and I recall when I last saw Gazelle she sadly looked well past ever steaming again, although I admit I'm only a casual observer. However, she'd be an ideal machine to replicate.

The EPB preservation group (I think?) launched a scheme a few years ago to install such a generator in a Motor Luggage Van (Class 419). I think the vehicle in question was 68009 and was a good choice because I believe it has been stripped of much of its original gubbins. With the southern MU equipment, the vehicle could have pushed/pulled many of the BR southern electrics but a quick n lazy internet search reveals nothing of the scheme. I didn't dream it did I?!?

Along with the idea to create a Class 13 out of two 08's, I believed this scheme to be one of the most realistic and achievable in the diesel/electric re-creation business...

My original thought was that a very much silenced diesel driven generator could be accommodated in one of the vehicles of a preserved EMU, albeit with a loss of some seats, but not a converted luggage van or other independent vehicle. This could feed the EMU just as if it was taking it from the third rail/overhead and would be virtually indistinguishable from original operation in terms of driving and travelling. It would be fundamental that it was a silenced genny, otherwise the illusion is lost. Might have to forego some of the acceleration, though!

Going back a few posts I would be content if that most elegant of Victorian Scottish locomotives,Caledonian Single 123, was displayed properly to show off her elegant proportions. When I saw her in the "Old" museum she was stuck against a wall with the tender partially screened with a bicycle from "Balamory" on it. When visiting the new museum last December 123 is now separated from her tender with a wood platform between her 2 halves so visitors can view the cab.Would an art gallery display the Mona Lisa by cutting it into 2 halves?

That's what the North Tyneside Railway do with Harton Electric E4 of 1909 - however when I last contacted them they had no plans to run it this year due to lack of driver availability but hope to next year.

Alternatively, if possible, could always run it at Beamish or the Tramway Museum. According to Wikipedia it took 600-630 volts, and again according to Wikipedia older tram systems such as Blackpool use/used 600 volts
