Titfield Thunderbolt II - The Rematch

North Norfolk Railway's re-enactment of the Titfield Thunderbolt film - in celebration of the film's 60th anniversary. The train was hauled by 'GWR 0-4-2 No. 1450' (renumbered to 1401 for the event). Also features the visiting locomotives '34067 Tangmere' and 'GWR pannier 9466' which formed 'The Titfield Thunderbolt' railtour (mainline charter). Recorded on 22 & 23 June.

34067 Tangmere on a lovely summers morning, 11th June... 2011! It's uploading to YouTube at the moment, but should be available here soon. It's taken from my latest Steam Age Pictures disc, "Mainline 2011: Southern Locomotives". There'll be a nice clip of Clan Line soon, too.

 

Very well shot and, with the exception of a couple of odd glitches, well edited too. It's such as shame that the music is totally inappropriate for the Titfield Thuderbolt! Loud, fast-paced guitar rock has it's place, but it's not suitable for this video and totally spoils the effect. Can you find something from the period (c. 1952), which probably means British light music or perhaps some jazz or swing? It's just a bit too early for rock'n'roll. Something like The Devil's Gallop (used as the theme for the Dick Barton radio series) might be more appropriate, thought that tune's possibly a bit hackney'd.
