Ex-Penrhyn No. 12 Ogwen and No.15 Glyder were unloaded at Beamish Museum this morning. They are on display in the back of the colliery engine shed. I think you will need a good flash gun to get decent photos of them.
No 8 Winifred which returned to the UK with Ogwen & Glyder I understand has gone to The Bala Lake Rly
The main reason that Ogwen & Gyder are at Beamish is because they were new to Durham County Water Board Burnhope Reservoir Scheme

Has there been any furter news on the lost locomotives? I saw Winifred two weeks ago, and would really love to see some of the others rescued!
Seems such a shame that they almost seem to be forgotten about in barns rather than being enjoyed (running or just displayed!) by everyone!

By the way, thanks to the Bala Lake Railway for letting me have a good mooch about winifred and the workshops!

The new edition of Heritage Railway (officially out on Thursday but some subscribers may get it earlier) reports that King of the Scarlets, Michael and Liassic will be arriving back in the UK later this month.

Wow! I am really pleased to hear that!

When I have my lottery win (yeah right!) a quarry hunslet (or two!) would be at the top of the wish list - Ahead even of a black 5 which was previously top of the wish list!

really pleased to hear they are on their way back, congratulations to whoever has got them, just wish it was me!- Oh well, nesta one day perhaps, or a new one!!!

I'm not sure about the blue. She looks black to me but the red lining is a rather odd colour.

All Penrhyn steam locos were black with lining. The diesel locos varied in colour: apple green, olive green, RAF blue lined white and maroon lined white. I've never seen the colour of the petrol locomotives quoted.

Indeed, the loco looks black, but the gold lining ought to be a very light blue, and the blue lining red to proerly represent late period Penrhyn lining. See File:Linda Blodge 3.jpg - Festipedia

An earlier scheme of Penrhyn lining can be seen now on Hugh Napier, seen at Hugh Napier | Atlantic Publishing

Even earlier is the livery on Gwynedd, which I understand is representative of how the loco was delivered to Penrhyn by Hunslet Gwynedd - Festipedia

First of all Margaret is owned by the PRNGT and is heading towards completion at Aberystwyth. So you will get to see one of "Mr Ramptons" engines sooner than you think. Secondly I believe Michael, King of the Scarlets, and Sybil Mary are all heading to somewhere ending in barn.

Whilst it will indeed be nice to see Margaret out and about in due course, its a pity one or two of Mr Ramptons collection couldn't find their way to "somewhere ending in barn", even if purely on some form of loan agreement.

I'm sure something suitably beneficial to both parties could be agreed and that the team there would give the proverbial eye teeth to work their magic on gems such as the Avonside Heisler or Bagnall Meyer.

Also with "King of the Scarlets" accessible it might mean the Maid Marian/King of the Scarlets/Velinheli mystery might be resolved (Ref Cliff Thomas' Oakwood press book on the Quarry Hunslets page 102) :-

"Velinheli" - Has correct early type frames but wrong boiler - has a dome but should of been dome-less.

"King of the Scarlets" - Has wrong later type frames (should be early type) but has correct boiler.

"Maid Marian" - Has wrong early type frames (should be later type) and should of had a dome boiler but is now domeless.

The frames / boiler /saddletank type combinations of these three "Alice" class locomotives apparently don't match up with their as built condition suggesting there was a 3-way swap around of identities between the locomotives. (and to further confuse matters "King of the Scarlets" was originally named "Alice" but that name was known to have been switched to the present namesake now at Bala in 1908 or thereabouts... and I suppose, according to one theory, there are two quarry hunslet engines on the BLR that have carried the name "Alice" - phew!).

    This is excellent news.

For info, the W&LLR "Monarch" is the same as the PRNGT's Bagnall Meyer and now on public display in the new display shed at Welshpool with "Sir Drefaldwyn".
