The SVR twitter showed a picture of 34053 taking her first movements and it seems that there is a few Mk1's behind her aswell. Looks like the long struggle is over!

Well, I'm sure its been no more of a struggle than with any other newly-restored locomotive that has been transported away from its restoration base without prior testing. At least the news is positive...

SVR Engineering confirm that 34053 passed the in steam insurance exam at 13-00 today (13-00 on Friday 13th...lucky for some!!) and has made her (his?) first movements in steam since 1965.

Truly excellent news, and particularly when you see the "before restoration" images of the mortal remains of the loco.

    Now insured, running-in can commence.

...and not a moment too soon...!

Fantastic news! By the look of the headcode it could be heading for Bournemouth as well.
    Well done to all concerned.

34053 was taken for several trips through Bridgnorth station by Duncan Ballard. He seemed quite pleased! The loco ran light at all times today. The photo on the svr twitter feed was taken in Holybush siding at the north end of the station and is where the Seven Valley Venturer coaches are stabled. The coach behind SKP is infact a 1930's stanier first class dining car....miles better than a Mk1!

It was being passed over the electronic weigh-bridge several times to get an average reading. The "scales" are fitted to the track fairly close to the signal-box. This has become standard "best-practice" for any engine new to the SVR or one that has had spring changes.

Is there an operational reason the weighbridge is fitted to the platform line next to the box ?, on the face of it, it seems a strange place for it.

I think I read in SVR news that, other than for reasons of convenience, it is one of the few level places at Bridgnorth!

It must be said, the SB is a fairly convenient place to locate the indoor electronic readout and printout gubbins.

[muttermutter] even if it does detract from the ambience of the 'box [/muttermutter]

Please note: in best KentYeti fashion, this is meant as a joke.

The weighbridge readout gubbins could be in the locking room below the box, given that there will be a direct route from the base of the box underneath the platform to the track.

Something that had also crossed my mind. These decisions, however, are taken by those above my pay grade. I'm sure someone will be along shortly with a counter argument.
    But we digress from SKP.
