Got Taliesin's post in a forum email this morning and couldn't believe what I was reading, Marchlyn repatriated.... :) Wonder if I will see her at Penrhyn in my lifetime!!!

Looking forward to seeing her wherever.

You will have to be patient to see her moving anywhere, as at the moment she is third in line for the rebuild. As posted at Statfold on Saturday, the order is: finish Jung 3175, then on to Bronllwyd which is already partially dismantled. Next will be the Corpet followed by Marchlyn. Difficult to say what the time span will be as it is, of course, subject to routine matters and any mishaps (hopefully none). I would estimate somewhere around 18 months at the earliest but that's only my reckoning! There are one or two non-steam locos around, plus non-railway steam. I would guess, that after the little problems on Saturday, there may be a bit of track work and there is a signal box and signalling to be dealt with sometime and there's always the chance of some revenue earning projects getting in the way. But it's Statfold, so you never know what surprises may be in store. Long may the success continue.

I have to say I am absolutely chuffed to hear that she is back in the UK and somewhere I know she will be restored to working condition in the not too distant future.

I know when this thread started, a number of us seemed to have contacted the park and asked about the loco, but not had much luck in terms of responses.

I can but be amazed at how Graham, Henry and all those at Statfold manage to repatriate these loco's, whilst I would obviously have preferred to have seen her in my garage!, it is fantastic news.

Congratulations to all involved, I look forward to seeing the pictures of her now and the rebuild story as it unfolds.

    Superb.
    Best regards,

    Rich.

Was Marchlyn the locomotive that was at Lake Winnepesauka Amusement Park in Chattanooga?

Martyn Ashworth has done just that. Marchlyn is now at Statfold and is due to reappear fully working in September next year.

Let's hope so. The word is that the restoration should be finished by next September for the open day at Statfold.

To make sure there's plenty of track for her (and others) to run on at the Penrhyn Railway, why not join the Penrhyn Railway Society and help? See www.penrhynrailway.co.uk. If you or any other member of this forum would like a sample copy of the PRS's acclaimed journal, Y Llechen/The Slate, send me a PM and I'll arrange it.

I can vouch for the quality of Y Llechen, it is a most interesting read.

I am looking forward to the time when I can visit once again to help out, maybe to lay some track!

Great railway and another lovely original loco to run on it.

    Splendid news indeed.

With my controversial head on... wouldn't it be great to see her back in her original condition as Durham Country Water Board No. 82 WEAR, even just for a short while. I know she only spent three years on the contract but it would be different and the big hand lettered name on the tanksides with the lining looked superb.

Owners perrogative to choose livery of course but I'd love to see it!

For anyone who wants to know more about her early life I'd recommend Dam Builders Railways from Durham's Dales to the Borders by H D Bowtell if you haven't already got it!

We have already condidered this and its not out of the question!

We`ve just got to have a look at whats required and if its not too much its a distinct possibility it could happen!

Well I`m pleased to report that, today, Marchlyn was steamed and ran for the first time in 47 years.

And a very nice engine to drive she is!

Hopefully she will be going on her tours end of July

    Really superb news indeed.

Here is a photo of the day the lining was finished. Sorry for poor quality. We havnt been able to get the loco outside since because of the rain!

Marchlyn will be seen in public for the first time at Threlkeld Quarry for David Tillotsons private photo charter on the 28th July. It will then go to the West Lancs Railway for their Gala on the 11th and 12th of August
