Would you like to expand on that? 9 months of volunteering on PW negative is it?

Moaning about what exactly? would you like to link to one of these moans? Bu**erd if I can find one. All I asked was if the ownership of the crossing keepers cottage was known (I incorrectly put signal box) and a few other details which Chris Moxon answered via a pm.

Anyway, to return to the original question, who owns the former crossing keeper's cottage at Oakamoor? Also, do any traces of the signal box survive between the former level crossing and the river Churnet bridge, old photos I've seen show it as being there on the downstream side of the track?

Any information on the chances of using the original Alton station for Alton Towers, I would hope that the Landmark Trust would be prepared to consider it?

No I do not currently volunteer
Anyone who really wants to know who owns the cottage can find out from the Land Registry - for a fee!

In relation to the use of the existing station at Alton Towers I would have thought that anything other than the re-use of it would be unacceptable. What would be the point of keeping the current tolerably preserved platforms but stopping the railway north of them? However, I can see that, if permission is ultimately granted for the southward extension to Alton Towers, it might well be conditional on there being nothing but a passenger station facility there. Unfortunately heritage railways have a habit of surrounding themselves with the detritus of their trade, as at Cheddleton. Wouldn't it be nice the CVR could relocate its "industrial" activities to the former Bolton's site at Froghall and reduce Cheddleton to a country staion?

I believe the fact that that hasn't happened wasn't for lack of trying. If you've travelled the line you may have noticed the long line a machine tools by the lineside at that location.

Just going from memory, so probably wrong (!), but wasn't there a suggestion for trains to go a short distance further than the existing Alton station to a new platform which would be more convenient for park access?

It is one of the options currently under consideration. No final decision has yet been made, and personally I doubt we will see such a decision made until the line to Stoke has been fully re-opened.

Definitely, and the powers that be have looked into it. Unfortunately it is presently beyond the reach of CVR/NSRT, unless they were to come across a rather large pot of gold.

Yes that was the original proposal, put forward as a suggestion by Alton Towers I believe, mainly to avoid people/shuttle bus bottlenecks on the road from the station to the usual main entrance. I suggested my forum that they re-open the 'bottom gate' which is directly opposite the station. Of course this all depends on the owners of the station granting access etc.

Gawd, Am I glad that at last we have finished changing sleepers at Leek Brook. The last few weeks have been tough going with shortage of people due to holidays. Some days only 6 were changed. The digging out of the beds dragging out of the sleeper and replacing a (new?) one was bad enough, but the biggest problem was getting the chairs off. Someone in their wisdom cut of the top of the elastic spikes with a ox/ acst cutter the slag then jammed in the square hole of the chairs, this then resulted in the complete destruction of some of the old sleepers getting them off, some 160 sleepers have been changed in his area alone, there are still a few that require drilling but that is not a big problem. We have been soaked then sunburnt but I don't think any of the gang has not secretly enjoyed the work.

I see from the latest issue of Rail (700), it says that there will be an article on Moorland and City railways plans in the next issue.
