    Evening all,
Forgive my ignorance regarding 506, but what are its plans (if any) for its future?
I would love to see it run again, as I'm sure many would, but is there any reason why she is sidelined?
I am not of the 'lets steam everything' basis before anyone jumps on that wagon! Is it a case that if a trust were in place to restore and run the loco then things might happen or is it on the conservation list?
Has anybody from the GCR expressed any interest in it at all?
    Regards
    Steve

AFAIK she needs a new boiler and the NRM won't allow that much to be replaced.

If you want a GCR engine passenger... GCR 567 Loco Group

I'd have thought that it is more a case of the NRM not wanting massive amouns of work done to the existing boiler. I'm sure that if someone came up with a replacement boiler they'd allow the old one to be stored and the new one used!

Doesn't need a new boiler. It has run in the past and I would expect that one day it will run again - just not yet. Will look great on a train of Barnums at some time in the future. It isn't sidelined, but is quite happy at Barrow Hill, under cover and looked after, and on display. That's all we ask.

An overhaul would take time and money, both are in short supply at present.

Thanks for the replies, sidelined maybe wasn't the word I should have used, she is indeed very happy at Barrow Hill! I didn't know what (if any) the major hurdle was in terms of restoration. I was thinking along those lines too Anthony, Imagine 506 on a train of Barnums passing 567 on a train of 4W stock at Swithland whilst the 04 is in the loop awaiting Peckett 'Elizabeth' with some Mountsorrel wagons to arrive from the quarry!

Now Nos 567, 506 and 102 all in GCR livery with appropriate pre-grouping GCR stock would make the Great Central worth a visit. Mayve even have one station on the lines restored to original conditon too. A mouth watering prospect.

Isn't Rothley in pretty much original condition? Supposed to be Edwardian but can't be too much difference between late 19th Century/Edwardian apart from some of the adverts

The GCR No567 Locomotive Group has launched a limited edition artwork that will be available to subscribers in the near future. The image shows No567 in GC livery heading South through East Leake station with a train of 6 wheelers.

There is much to do to turn this image into a reality but many of the component of the image are there.

Funding for the locomotive construction is progressing very well, quotes for the cutting of the frames have been obtained and an order is expected to be placed iminently.

The restoration of 6 Wheeler no 946 is progressing faster than ever before with doors being rehung and the interior being painted.

East Leake station slumbers at present, but a feasibility study has been prepared outline the approach to reaopening.

Plenty room for help with all these projects which can in the end turn an image into reality.

    The GCR No567 Project.
