A shame if they are just trying to raise funds to just cosmetically restore her! Seems a waste of money?

BTW on 35011; there doesn't seem to be alot happening on this front? Does it mean they are going to start working hard now in getting her to Unrebuilt form? And are there any dates to when this may happen?

Why is a cosmetic restoration a waste of money? Would you prefer she was allowed to go rusty? As there are no current plans to restore 34051 to working order IMHO it's quite proper to keep her in pristine condition.

    A Thingy...
Not really a waste of money, as she requires quite a bit of tidying up. As I have mentioned on this thread before, don't let the pictures of the highly-polished 34051 fool you; there is plenty of rust and flaking paintwork to be seen on it, particularly on the tender top, and there are some patches of metal attached to the air-smoothed casing that one presumes are covering gaping holes caused by corrosion. The cabside is missing its LH window and various fittings are missing from the footplate. Certainly the poor relation to 4468 and 6229 at this present time, but I'm not knocking the NRM about it. We need to be realistic that the museum only has limited resources, and relies upon the generosity of the 'Friends of the NRM' to fund many of its projects. Thankfully, after waiting patiently in the queue, it seems that it is now 34051's turn for a renaissance. The significance of 2015 is that it will be the 50th anniversary of the locomotive hauling WLS Churchill's funeral train from Waterloo to Handborough, north of Oxford and the nearest station to Bladon, where he was buried.

Not to sure where Lplus is going with his comments.
A working steam loco is a working steam loco.JBs locos are subject to much speculation and time will tell what happens to them. 31625 does not have a tender so is not readily mobile within the yard. Lack of space in the main yard means locos are stored in the Headshunt.
34016 and 31625 are the only steam locos stored in the Headshunt. 30828 30499 are both being worked on in the yard.41312 is down for pre overhaul assessment. A pretty good situation I feel.

Hopefully they will bring D1015 and the SR van to York for the occasion too.

I'm not going anywhere with my comments. I'm simply pointing out that there are 4 locos presently available for scheduled services, which is about right given that the schedule generally requires 2 in steam, with a third sometimes at weekends. There are another three complete locos in the yard which are not "working" as they require rebuilding to a greater or lesser extent. I think your view of "working" differs significantly from mine.

31625 inherited 31806 4000 Gallon tender when it steamed and ran on the main line . It does have its own tender but this is a new body on a Schools snow plough chassis and has never been completed and is stored at the end of the Ropley headshunt. 31806 got its own tender back when it was returned to steam again.

Just got my copy of MHR News today. Also included is a donation flyer for the overhaul of 35005. Reading the flyer they need around £100.000 to overhaul the boiler. Anyone out there with some deep pockets to help bring 35005 back in to service again.
