We have just had our July working party. It was a very good day with eight volunteers attending and help from the Barrow Hill lads as well; the axleboxes have returned and the loco will be back on it's wheels within the month. All four buffers were removed and replaced with new hardwood packings behind. The frames have had a second coat of red or black gloss as appropriate; the saddle tank and cab are in the process of being repaired/rubbed down and repainted.

I see the M&GN Loco Club have posted a nice video of Wissington in Steam :)
    Well done to them!

Anyone prepared to comment if it will make the Mid Suffolk's gala?

    Cheers

I saw HE 3806 'Wilbert' from Dean Forest heading east on the M42 last Wednesday. Anyone know where it was heading?

The front tubeplate has been removed from Robert Heath No.6 to allow access to remove the firebox girders which is progressing.

A few nice pics in the 'news' of Peckett 'Hornpipe' on Ipswich Docks today, billed as the last steam loco to grace the dockland railway system.

Hunslet 3694 of 1950 'Whiston' will be arriving at the GCRN for entry into service on the 12th August and is expected to stay until the end of October. For all those who did not get to see and make RSH 56 Class/Austerity comparisons at the Foxfield here is another chance to see the two types in close proximity again, but this time on 10 miles of ex GC main line. Further details of rostered locomotives will be advised through the website and via the internet.

On page 71 of HR 165 there is a picture of Barclay 2107 of 1941 'Harlaxton' - could someone please tell me if they know who has the copy right of this picture? I am the editor of Caley Lines, the newsletter of the Caledonian Railway in Brechin, where this loco is based. I would like to be able to reproduce this picture in our next issue, and obviously need to contact the copyright holder.

I've tried contacting the editorial team via the magazine's website, but to no avail.

Alternatively, if anyone else has any pictures of Harlaxton in industrial service they are happy for us to reproduce, please let me know.

You are welcome to use this one if it is of use - loco out of use just after the diesels arrived but complete. I note it did not carry the name 'Harlaxton' and that is confirmed by the IRS handbook of the time -

Thanks both of you. The loco is currently masquerading as a certain blue engine with a face, and I think its good for our members to see what it looked like when it was working hard for a living.

    "Vulcan" August progress.

After some energetic midweek sessions by Martyn Asworth and Stuart Cameron, the axle journals have been polished and the locomotive is now back on its wheels.

We had eight volunteers working hard today, mostly on scraping cleaning and painting. The next working party is set for Sunday 16th September.

Victory A/B 2199 has now been fitted with her vacuum system for passenger duties. The resent Gala weekend at the Epping Ongar railway saw the loco given a evening train test run with fellow shedmate 4953 to near Epping. All happy to add, all went well although it was a rather hard test run! although the hall did help a little! lol.
Some minor mods are still required, but she is doing well.
