Its not the PA itself that would makes its non-use a blessing at times, it's the way the PA is used surely ?

I would still maintain that on a 10+ coach train in the 21st century, a working PA is vital on many levels. While it may not be the obvious candidate for the subject of a claim, it is an important communication tool, and in the event of an "on the day" problem, it's importance becomes a lot more important, appreciated and understood I would argue. Promoters are keen to absolve themselves from the effects of possible "on the day" problems, which in that sense they acknowledge are a possibility, yet they're happy to run railtours using coaches without a working PA for the purpose of informing customers of such problems occurring, should they occur.

Can that be justified ? Yes or No ?

I did say on a less serious note!

The occasion I was thinking of involved an accordian band providing "entertainment" from the brake

Note that this discount applies to the NWCE on 19 August but on RTC's website they have separate headings for NWCE dates starting from Crewe and Liverpool but don't distinguish between the two in the heading. This is just plain lazy wesite design in my view, but RTC should be all over this kind of thing as its their reputation at stake, just like the error on The Tynesider.

Makes you wonder what ND does all day when he allows this sort of stuff to be published in his name ?

#366, #368 and #370 seem not to add much to the debate I am afraid. Could Mods delete?

You're starting to let the red mist cloud your jugement now. In post #364 your berated RTC for their website ...

.... and now you're agreeing that

You can't have it both ways, and remember I'm no rose tinted glasses tour freak.

Yes I agree Steam Dreams need to venture their start point further north, Leeds, Doncaster or even Sheffield. I'm hoping :pray2:

I wonder how many up North would be prepared to fork out £99 for a ticket?

Well most of us that have the same pay as you in the South but pay half as much for our houses = greater disposable income!

Very flippant reply. To the average punter stung by a dodgy rail tour outfit, the distinction over what would have pulled the train they didn't get to travel on would be minor detail.

Yeah it was wasn't it? And congratulations for trawling back several places to find it. If you'd read it in context, it was intended to point out to those discussing the merits or otherwise of Great Rail Journeys of Britain that they only run diesel tours and so were unlikely to be getting any bookings and hence complaints from said folk present at that time. Plus it had nothing to do with RTC.

But don't you spend most of it on flat caps, racing whippets and homing pigeons? :)

No we buy Jags and spend on going away to far flung countries to ride on steam hauled charters that are unreliable, never run to time and can be very uncomfortable, but you get many run pasts, get to ride on the footplate, can stand as close to the track as you want, no fences, and have the trip of a lifetime enjoying every minute, only spoilt by the odd person who is not prepared to put up with the first couple of minor irritants, and moans all the time.

A true Yorkshireman's flat cap is inherited, never bought. Whippets are always inbred. Homing pigeons are always sold, sold again, and again, and.......
