The problem is few really understand how it works or what it is intended to protect. Therefore some organizations a hide behind it to avoid disclosing valid requests for information while what appear to be blatant breaches of the act are so difficult to report (or indeed to convince anyone at the DPR to take an interest in ) that they go byn without any action being taken.

The DPR is another toothless watchdog in the same way as the energy, water and rail regulators are.

As I understand the law there is no restriction on a company with a mailing list of customers selling that information to another company in a similar business which is looking for customers to send mailings on subjects which they have previously expressed an interest in. In the case of Kingfisher that mailing list is an asset and presumably by buying this list the new company has gained ownership of the list.

This is where the local councils generate income - by selling names and addresses of rate payers from the Electoral Rolls to companies as they build up their mailing lists.

Would appear to be changes and unhappiness....

An update to our statement on 22nd July when we announced that dates in our programme had to alter. We still await the new dates from our Train Operator. As we stated before, this does mean that the dates in August and September will change to other dates yet to be announced to us. We will keep those passengers informed who have registered an interest in the dates affected. Our sincere apologies for this alteration which is completely out of our control.
It is with regret that it seems a small fraction within the specialist railway press do not seem to want us to succeed in our new business, making a very defamatory accusation about us which will now be taken up by our legal team. It is such a pity that any new venture isn't given more support in these days of small businesses trying to make ways forward. However, our plans go forward and a newly dated set of train tours will go ahead with the new Train Operator with some in 2012 and a full programme for 2013. - 02/08/2012

This one just won't go away will it...

They state Riviera are "operating" their trains, but arent they just a stock provider? I wonder who the TOC are,or even if they have one yet.

I hope prospective punters are aware that when they do a card payment via Paypal they do not have section 75 protection enabling a "chargeback" to be made if the supplier fails to deliver or goes bust. Cheque payment is not recommended except for the very brave/optimistic!

Didn't Hardingham 'disappear' a few years ago after canceling most of his trains and not giving refunds?, and with regard to the TOC, it must be DBS as he never paid his bill to WCR at the time he went into hiding?

You are correct, I picked up a flyer at the Mid-Hants today advertising the first trip(from Eastleigh to Canterbury on 9th April)which states that they have "teamed up with Riviera Trains and DB Schenker". I presume DBS will require full payment up front to run the trip?

Could I be a tad ironic / sarcastic (?) and venture to suggest that DBS involvement will be on the basis that if owt goes wrong - and for any reason - Roger Hardingham will be the scapegoat as his reputation will have preceded him.

Its all gone very quiet on this one:

    Wed 09-AprTHE GOLDEN ARROW t0409a
    Eastleigh-Canterbury
    34046: Willesden-Canterbury-Willesden

    GRJB

Can anyone say if it will actually operate? Would Mr H have had to pay DBS yet?

there is an article about this company in the latest Railway Heritage mag. they are asking for £20 deposit to secure a seat on their trains, but then state that they are waiting for confirmation from DBS that they can source sufficient footplate crews for these trains, sounds a shambles affair and after the trouble I had with Kingfisher tours with this same gentleman, it is the very last company I would send any money to! In fact if it was the last charter train company standing I'd give up main line steam travel.

Well, for the Canterbury trip you'd need Hither Green crews and I think there may be two at present as these folk do the British Pullman. So for the steam bit...and if it's not their day off...then you may be in luck.

Anyone heard if this is actually running? There doesn't appear to be anything on Realtime Trains yet.

At least there should be time to sort out the water feed problems with Braunton before she runs with this trip, assuming that it was just a blockage.
