I'm surprised that it has got to Thursday and there has been no mention of this; or have I missed something?

Dereham train crash bill could cost thousands of pounds - News - Eastern Daily Press

Doesn't sound too good and that makes three 'heritage' incidents withing a month.

Important thing is that nobody was hurt. A bit of a blow for Dennis Howells and his team though.

I think it is good that this topic is good here in steam traction.

I guess this might have an impact on the Steam Festival. LNER 1306 was/is? scheduled to attend. I would not be surprised if the event is cancelled.

Mr Dale stressed that the MNR Steam Gala weekend planned for Friday, July 13, until Sunday, July 15, would still go ahead.

    NOPE

The collision between the 1940s steam loco, a Hawksworth Pannier tank engine, and a 1960s diesel engine happened at the Dereham station of the Mid-Norfolk Railway (MNR) just after noon on Saturday.

Re: Crash at Mid Norfolk Railway!

For why? I'd expect that the ORR/RAIB have already visited to make a preliminary assessment & I doubt they'd issue a 'stop' order unless there was a major need for one. As no parties were injured, & the MNR doesn't have any 'previous' that seems highly unlikely based on what little we know.

We won't know any more about the incident until the MNR make an official statement, & no more than that until the RAIB issue a preliminary report. That could take a while unless the incident throws up an issue that the authorities deem to require urgent dissemination (as they did over the potential issue with reverser latches as a result of the NYMR's recent tragedy).

According to a post on wnxx by the MNR's operations manager "appropriate agencies were informed and are content with the way the incident was handled. The RAIB did not wish to attend." Hopefully the damage is not too severe.

I hope someone in time will be able to post what the damage is to 9466 with some accuracy as opposed to speculation.

Im hoping the "six figure sum" is something the Journo has plucked out of thin air, as it implies quite a nasty prang.

The same report suggested that the loco could be repaired by September, which to me is at odds with the six figure sum - could work to that value be actually be done in such a short period of time?

Does anyone know which "1960s diesel" was involved?

9466 was on a low loader at 6.30 p.m. last night and was waiting to leave the station yard at Dereham. Damage seems to be confined to a droopy buffer beam at the smokebox end.

Very difficult and unwise to determine the damage from a picture. History has shown that a small knock resulted in a partial re-staying of a boiler. Let's see what the inspection shows up before saying £20 and 2 weeks.

9466 was in the locoarrivals and departures siding at Dereham last night.
