In-so-far-as Tangmere's presence at Crewe last summer meant that all of the regulars were unavailable for some reason, I agree. On the other hand, if the worst does happen, then let's hope that Tangmere, or another "Thunderbird", is able to cover at short notice. The CME and especially the Scarborough Flyer are heavy duties and need a 7P loco, or better, with a 75mph top speed to keep time. Such locos tend not to be under-employed in high summer these days (which in one way is brilliant).

Why do you say that? 60007 and 60009 have both put up great performances on the S&C over the years. I can't recall runs with A4s over Shap, off hand, but then again, I can't recall any problems on Shap either. And you only have to look at Bittern's recent performances in Devon and Cornwall to know that she's well able to handle a heavy train on a gradient, too.

However, this isn't really related to Lizzie and her boiler ticket extension. Maybe we should start a new thread about A4 performances on "foreign territory"?

I should of said that I don't know how well they do in the Cumbrian Mountains.

    Getting back to 6201
I think this years schedule is interesting because the locomotive shall be visiting territory that she hasn't seen in awhile. The Trip to Cardiff being an example. I do hope that the locomotive shall get to face the mountains again after the summer season though.

Its seems to have slipped under the radar but in Steam Railway it seems that on July 11th 6201 hauled the Royal Train from Newport to Hereford with the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh on board. Lizzie hauled it again from Worcester to Oxford (though I'm not sure if the Royals were on it or if it was an ECS movement).

Congratulations to the Princess Elizabeth Locomotive Society this year in that its the society's 50th Anniversary, taking part in the Diamond Jubilee Pagent and now the Royal Train. A truly special year for the Society and the locomotive. Also she's only (to the best of my knowledge) the second steam locomotive in the preservation era to haul the Queen (after 6233 in 2002) as all the others and the upcoming one on Monday have featured Prince Charles.

You need have no fear about A4s being competent to handle a CME. Here's one they prepared earlier PSOV Power & Performance 60007 on Shap in 1995 - YouTube :)

Total nonsense. I don't know how much you really understand the British steam being in Texas but ever since the return to steam on the Settle and Carlisle in 1981 (I think) 60007, 4498, 60009 and 60019 have all put in sterling performances.
But why let the facts get in the way of a quick sound-bite from 5,000 miles away!

I'm actually at the point where I know it shall be fun watching 60009 this summer. Bittern put in a Great show on the Cathedrals Explorer a couple of months ago.

However, as a fan, I love LMS Princess Royal Class Locomotives.

Nothing wrong with being a fan of Stanier's "Improved King" Class :) but it does not automatically follow that the designs of other CMEs are not up to the mark off of "home territory."

Just coming down to earth somewhat, it is encouraging to read on the Society website that they have a team in place to manage the next ten-year overhaul, so I assume that they have managed to put by the necessary funds for that overhaul.

Pure supposition on my part, but with Bob Meanley as part of the team presumably the overhaul will take place at Tyseley?

True reason unknown Mike but could be internal politics.

Wait and see, I have it on good authority that she is not going south.

A situation like this happened once before when 6201 was listed for some trips down South (For Kingfisher railtours IIRC).
In the end she didn't work any of them and the reasons given for her non-appearance were gauging problems and lack of support crew. I remember travelling on a trip with her after these runs had been lost and hearing some of the 6201 volunteers talking about the money that had been lost due to "Politics at the top" stopping these runs from taking place. It's very sad if this has happened again.
