Is it maybe not time that the Railway Preservation movement as a whole, gets some recognition? The benefits heritage railways and railtours bring to local economies. The enjoyment they bring to millions each year. The fact 3 engines this year have had ties with the Royal Train.

I'm not expecting that the movement is mentioned at the forefront of the Queen's Speech come Christmas. But some sort of recognition I'm sure would go a long way to making sure that the heritage sector is indeed congratulated for all their hard work, and that they are given positive national coverage to help promote and build their future?

It does happen already, there have been quite a few MBEs etc and other trinkets spread about over the years.

I'm not meaning as in specific people or groups. I mean just an overall acknowledgement award to the whole of the railway preservation scene.

Thank-you. Best laugh I've had in ages!

    Oh you were serious?

He needs a saint-hood for dealing with Mr Bunker all this time!

Do you award Knighthoods for choosing to do business exclusively with the wrong TOC and alienating themselves from the other TOC that could get them out of a situation? If that meets the criteria, then I pronounce you……..

I am delighted to have given you your best laugh in ages. To be honest, it started out as a "tongue in the cheek" posting but the responses have been interesting to say the least. What is more, I think Marcus has done a great deal for mainline steam and whether he should ever be knighted, given an OBE, MBE or what ever does not really matter. He can stand tall amongst the great men of preserved steam.

I have known Marcus for some time and indeed furnished his new offices with a robust telephone system to deal with all of the ticket enquiries and sales. Having said that, to get the spelling of his surname wrong was unfortunate to say the least.

On a serious note, I wish Marcus ROBERTSON, Mr. Bunker and the team all the best during these difficult times with DBS crews still on strike. It must be very tough for them just now with no Steam Dreams trains running.

I know not of any alternative possibilities with West Coast but you seem to suggest that there is no way the they will come to the rescue?

By the way, is this DBS dispute settled. Everything seems to have gone quiet on this most important matter.

I have no more intimate knowledge on this subject than yourself. Just what I read and hear on the coconut telegraph. I just find it amusing that proprietors of Cathedrals Express should be Knighted. What have they done significantly over and above the others....RTC for example? Let's face it; they are just glorified travel-agents that hire everything in....I am sure it takes a lot of organizing and I personally wouldn't know or want to go about it. But....

Why not honor folks that have saved, preserved and operate these beasts....on the mainline and off?

I await the hate-mail and abuse from the Cathedrals fan club!
