Can anyone shed some light please as to whats going on with Duke of Gloucester?
I noticed her in steam at Southall about 2 weeks ago and a picture showing her in steam on 17th July is posted on the 71000 website.
Read on this forum that she was booked to run ecs to Btm on Sat 21st but then cancelled!

Posted elsewhere on this Forum from 71000 Facebook page:- "Unfortunatley 71000 will not be hauling this week's Torbay Express, instead it will be hauled by 70000 Britannia. A light engine movement could not be arranged to get the Duke to Bristol in time."

The Duke is now due to move to Bristol with Bittern on Friday to take part in the Tamar Devonian.

So are you suggesting there is something wrong at Eastleigh?

No, was that accusation really necessary?

Was your remark that it failed there a couple of weeks ago any less of an accusation?
    Note mods hat is off....

It did fail there, not an accusation. Not going into the whys & wherefores of the failure.
I was one of many who were waiting for it that day, just a bit disappointed it did not show.

I think it failed with sticking valves.

I see Britannia has now been substitured for Steam Dreams' Salisbury-Cambridge excursion on 11th September.

I hope 71000 will be fixed soon. A great engine, but not a great year for it.

When valves stick on a caprotti engine there are different symptoms to what you may have seen on some of the YouTube videos from 15th August dreaming spires express. The main giveaway of a stuck valve is a loud and constant blow through the blastpipe/chimney when the regulator is open, as when valves do stick, which is rare, they stick in the open position.

And to fix this involves taking the cam boxes off and cleaning out the offending stick causing deposits / gunge ?

Please refer to my previous post re: sticking valves

IF the valves have to come out for inspection or any other reason, then yes this can only be done with the cam boxes removed.

So what would be your diagnosis based on the youtube videos?
