1Z28 only delayed 36 minutes due to that incident apparently.

That incident (involving 1E73) occurred 35 minutes before 1Z28 was due to pass so it seems to have been dealt with quite quickly.

Yes, but they used bankers or double heading out of IL on the express trains
Anyway, it all boils down to weight on the drivers (I mean wheels, not if the crew have eaten too many pies!!) and how much power you can put to the rail. With Pacifics you loose that advantage straight away by sticking a pair of wheels under the cab.

There's seems a bit of variation even among Pacifics, ok all Pacifics slip sometimes, but in my experience LMS & BR types have slightly more grip than LNER & SR types.

Great day out behind Tangmere, given the conditions at Hemerdon on the return I thought she did herself proud. Well done all involved . . . Here's to next week!

From my video recording Ray Churchill appeared to be driving on the outward leg from Bristol. Can anyone verify? Also the names of the crews on the return would be useful. Apart from the drab weather (we must be getting used to that now) it appeared to be a good trip. Bittern with 11 matching coaches also appeared to be in excellent form. <BJ>

Glad you had a good day. Was hoping to go behind '67 on the last one of the season but seems my partner has other plans for us that weekend.

Indeed. They haven't seen the need to bank any of the TE's which Britannia has hauled.

From a performance point of view yesterdays run was all about 3 minutes of magic on Dainton. Mr Churchill didn’t believe me when I told him the time when we got to Par!

Ray Churchill (Bristol – Par – Plymouth); Bill Warrinier (Plymouth – Bristol). I believe the fireman out was John Gibbons and back John Shawe.

34067 clearly wasn’t on the mark for the return Exeter to Bristol, but hay we made it back. As always thanks to all who made it happen.

Perhaps Crewe set up their weight distribution and springing different to Doncaster and Eastleigh/Brighton ?.

I saw Tangers at Whiteball, Rattery, Combe Fishacre and Exeter yesterday. She appeared to be well in-charge of the load, and making rather less fuss than some locos I've seen. Given her speed on Rattery, above Tigley, I was quite surprised to hear that she'd been "checked" at Totnes on the outward trip, and I'd be interested to know what happened there. I guess it wasn't as severe a check as happened to Nunney Castle last year. At Combe Fishacre (which is about half a mile below Dainton tunnel), she looked like she was going as quickly as the preceding Voyager! My companion commented "Banks? What banks?"!

Any definite news on the loco for the 16th, now that 70013 is out of the picture?

Have to see. 34067 out because of doing the Padd - Plym on Sat 15th. With luck 70013 will be repaired in good time. (It's booked for the outward DCE on 13th.) Keep everything crossed. A

Further to the discussion about 34067's loadings over the Devon Banks, a colleague sent me this regarding permitted loadings for WC/BB Pacifics.

"The 1957 WTT shows Exeter to Newton Abbott 450 tons,
Newton Abbott to Rattery or Brent 288 tons
Rattery or Brent to Plymouth 390 tons,
    Plymouth to Hemerdon 288 tons,
300 Hemerdon to Newton Abbott 300 tons
Newton Abbott to Exeter 450 tons.
The corresponding loads for Castles, Counties and
    Britannias were: 455, 315, 420, 315, 350 and 485."

Just to confuse matters, a former Exeter diesel driver tells me that an ex GWR driver informed him that they'd allow a WC/BB to take the same as a Castle.
