From what I here no, that is unlikely, although not impossible. The Website I note has not been updated since the 5th August which I find a little odd considering how long the loco has been out of traffic.

As somebody who has been extremely lucky in driving 71000 at a East Lancs Experience day, i wish the trust every sucess in repairing there loco.

Was not due to get 71000, but a failure with Ian Rileys only black five at the time, led us to getting 71000.

Her support crew came in after a day of Sunday running, prep'd her and we drove her on a unforgettable Monday Afternoon.

I would always wonder if her heavy shunt, has left more longstanding damage than at first thought...

Understand that a valve gear fault caused it to be pulled from its last run and it has been at Eastleigh evers since. Duke guys are the experts on Caprotti. I know it is very complicated but if they have not fixed it by now I assume it is very serious. Saw the sectioned cylinder in Science museum years ago. The valves are steam operated and if there is damage inside the steam chest casting it would be very difficult to repair.

Not necessarily. There's more to it than just the mechanical problems. As previously discussed in this thread, and in the magazines: either the society needs to arrange for the loco to be worked on at Eastleigh (I understand the works is actually rather busy at present), or it needs to move her somewhere else - how? where? ELR? Wansford? Crewe?... That means that they need to decide whether to try to get her working for one more season or start the next overhaul. Most importantly, they need to sort out their funding. Will potential earnings (mainline and/or preserved line) be greater than the cost of getting her ready for another season's work?

I don't suppose for a moment that they have been sitting on their hands since August, but I suspect the logistical and financial issues are harder to sort out than the mechanics.

A very rainy picture of 71000 dumped outside the works taken from a Eastleigh-Southampton train yesterday.

And here is one of my photographs taken back in December from Campbell Rd Bridge...

I pass 71000 every day when I head up to Winchester from Hedge End - I think it has been sat there since the first week of December, so going on 6 weeks. A real shame if the rumours are true, as 71000 was fast becoming a favourite of mine!

71000 is going to Crew on the 24th by rail to be assessed by firms who will be biding for the work to get the loco back on the main line

I can confirm that The Duke is on his way back North at last - he passed through Micheldever on time being towed (tender first) by a green liveried Class 33 with 3 coaches on the back (1 support, 1 virgin & 1 anglia I think) - hopefully it won't be too long before we see him back on the mainline.

Is the plan still to go straight to an overhaul, or repair so she can see out the last of her ticket?
