News flash - Watch this space, the Mica B could see daylight very soon!

 

Well, the Mica B is outsde, in the down yard, just needing one or two little tweeks before she is ready for trafic.

 

Have seen a couple of photos of it today and it looks mint! A credit to all you wagon boys! Is it likely to have an outing at the ASG?

 

If its ready, there is still work to do on it, but some things can only be done out side where the light is better!

 

Its nice to have something interesting to report on, as there are only so many ways I can say we scrapped some metal or painted something.
The Mica B had its Mechanical exam this weekend, and there were no horror stories found, although the chassis, which had a coat of paint several years ago now, has had another coat of top coat applied, with this to be completed in the next week or two (Hopefully) with some more sign writing going on on the sole bar too.
Currently standing between the Mica and the goods shed are Mogo number 65801 and Mink A 93016. While the Mink will be straight out with no work to be done on her, the MOGO is in for a minor roof repair, as the canvass has split at both ends near the roof hoops. This will hopefully only reqiure a couple of weeks, and so hopefully this wagon should also be done before gala, although you never quite know with these jobs.
You may be asking yourselves what has become of our mess van, number 80982. The roof on the 99 year old Iron bodied CC7 van has been leaking for dome time, and one door is in need of fairly urgent repair, in addition to which the two sky lights need repair or replacement, so the old girl is currently in the goods shed, so we can carry out the work whilst keeping the weather out. It would be nice to see her as good as new for her centenary year in 2013.
I will be absent for a couple of weeks now as I'm off to the south Devon, but I hope you all wish us well,

As some of you may already know, gala weekend is nearly upon us, so natrually the group's attentions have turned to getting things ready. Last friday afternoon saw the Mica B released from the works into the goods train, currently being towards the centre of the train in order to protect the paint a little from anything coming out of the chimney of the loco.The examinations on the train are nearly complete and nothing and asside from a minor adjustment to 13154, all seems well.

Seeing that volunteers from the wagon group did such a great job of restoring the cattle wagon, any particular reason why it's not included in the gala goods? or might it be picked up during the Gala?

 

As far as I am aware, its owners want it left at Highley.

 

Well, following gala weekend, we had quite a relaxed week this week, although toad Brakevan 68501 has developed a broken drawbar spring and will need that replacing.
We also had a visit from the junior club, to give 346, the cadbury van, a much needed scrub to remove the green growths off the wagon, revealing that the paint beneath is actually in pretty good order. It remains to be seen what other work will be done on this wagon or if it will just get patted on its head and sent back out for a little while longer.

 

Makes a change to that of the bovine variety found so frequently elsewhere. anda:

I'm back, sorry about the gap, but gala's, guards turns and other issues have been in the way.
The Keen eye'd of you will have noticed that the chaired sleeper wagon, 40554 is now largely in top coat with Lettering on the north end. The chain pockets have been made and are loosely attatched to each side while one or two minor tasks remain to be carried out.
Cadbury van number 346 has had a quick wash and brush up thanks to the junior club. Not sure what is going to happen with this just yet.
Again, the observant ones here in recent weeks will have noticed that mess van 80982 has vanished, the reason for this is to allow our mess van to be repaired. The skylights are now off and awaiting replacement, while work on the frames is underway. It is hopd that work can start on the repairs to the roof next week.

 

Last weekends activities were based around 80982's roof. The wagon is 99 years old and parts of the roof are now at the end of their useful life, however, those same parts seem to be determinedly clinging to that life. By the end of staurday, one sky light surround was off, and the north end roof pannel had had a number or rivets punched out. This job has been slowed by the wagon having to be inside, meaning we can't gas the rivet heads off owing to the fire risk.
Out in the yard the chain pockets are now more or less finished for 40554 as this wagon nears the completion of a long overhaul.
with some luck, I should soon be bringing reports of a finished wagon and huge strides on 80982, Wish us all luck!

Sorry it has been so long, but my lack of action on here is no reflection of what has happened at Bewdley!
80982 has had the ends of the roof removed, and the new piece for one end has been made, allong with the extention plates, which have also been drilled. The removal of the dammaged roofing sheets revealed a rolled up piece of news paper with articles about the Vietnam war and Elvis Presley in it! Cleaning down on both the bottom end and the roof is moving on well, while the timber has been cut for the new skylights and they are awaiting assembly, so we are hoping to keep up the momentum on this wagon, while we can.
The Welding on 40554 is progressing well too although following the rain this weekend, there were comments about the down yard resembling the Somme this morning!

 

Sorry my reports have been a bit lacking of late, but here we go for the final time this year.
Work on 80982s roof is progressing steadyly, with the main sections for one end being cut already. The work on the removal of the squares on a couple of hundred coach bolts to hold the roof down is moving well too. lets hope our 6 week shut down in early 2013 means enough of us are free to move things on.
