Sorting through some old photos I came across one of a pair of coaches taken at the Railway Technical Centre, Derby, in the summer of 1977 or 1978. (The occasion was an open day for staff and families at the RTC). They're in primer/undercoat and don't appear to be completed. I don't think there was any explanation of what they were even at the time, and now I have no idea... They have an end window but appear not to be driving ends, although there's a massive headlight (?) above the corridor connection...

Would love to know what these are and what became of them...
    Thanks,
    Derek TP

The gangwayed end of a Northern Ireland Railways Class 80 'Thumper' DEMU under construction at BREL? These units have different cabs at each end, one (driving trailer) gangwayed and the other (power car) with a non-gangway sloping front. The units appear to have spent much of their time operating in back-to-back pairs, with the gangwayed ends coupled together and the 'proper' cabs at the outer ends.

The coaches are probably sitting on BR works bogies as the gauge in Ireland is 5ft 3ins - unless there was a piece of Irish gauge track laid at Derby!

Compare: NIR railcars, Bray:: OS grid O2718 :: Geograph Ireland - photograph every grid square!

    I'd second that opinion.

    Another Coach ID required

Could anyone assist me with the ID of this coach? (see attached image).

Seen at a Long Marston open day in 2008, possibly part of the Stratford & Broadway collection, looks GWR?

Failing an individual ID, could anyone advise what type/era coach it is?

    Thanks in advance :)

GWR 4777 Collett bow-ended Corridor Third built 1926

And I take a certain amount of pride in, before looking at the VCR, guessing 1920s, Collett Corridor third!
