If the fire isn't dropped, then an FTR can remain in force for more than 24 hours - I think the limit is 72 - that is certainly what applies to rolling stock and non-steam traction (hwich doesn't have to be left "switched on" either!)

Don't joke! it would be great to have the Duchess down this way on a few tours. She would be great on the Duchy (the tour name is obvious "The Duchy Duchess" ) and the Torbay Express. Churston's turntable has the extension pieces used to turn 6201, so no problem there!.....

I think in theory they woulden't be needed as Tyseley has turned Sutherland before, albeit with a fair bit of overhang, unlikely 46233 will be seen in the west country in 2012, but she has been one of the more reliable performers this year.

Edit: I think there's a good chance that turntable overhang would preclude it's use on the Royal Duchy as there's a fence quite tight up to the St Blazey table.

I guess the leylandii Hedge by the Churston table has a bit more give in it than the fence at St Blazey!

IIRC, Lizzie was turned at St Blazey a couple of years ago, but only after some railings were bent or removed. Bittern was turned there without such extreme measures. The Duchesss is shorter than Lizzie, but longer than an A4, I think, so it's an open question whether she'd clear the reinstated railings...

The first time I saw 6233 was when she went to Plymouth in October 2001. Very impressive!!

According to UKsteam, it will be Tangmere on the 16th.
Britannia is taking the Mayflower back to London.

On time D.W. 34067 followed the A-4 on the Kingswear so we had consecutive steam hauled trains less than 10m apart.
It seems like only yesterday when Bittern topped 70000 + was checked to a crawl adjacent to the footpath I was cycling on!!
    Happy days indeed.

I "hear a whisper" that we have not seen the end of the R.D........ Maybe a sat slot in 2013 on some of the weekends that the sunday WSE run(+ as a poss alternative when eng work precludes running to Weymouth) This is at the "outline ideas" stage.

Having thoroughly enjoyed my RD run behind 70013 I'd be more than happy to do it again in 2013, especially as fates conspired against me to get a run behind 34067 this star.

Seawall - dark- high tide - bright lights as 34067 waits time at Dawlish station. Then, a wonderful slow departure + a long view as it accelerated towards the Warren. FANTASTIC!!

ps Spamcan81 I'll tell ND there is at least one poss booking for next year-cheers.!!!

More than one Ray. At least two of the BBLS crowd would join me. Get an A4 as well and we'd do that one too. :)

Put me down for more in 2013 as well but it would be good to try and get the return closer to 9 pm, 10:30 is a bit late for a regular trip. Is it possible to water at Dawlish Warren instead of Exeter? The distance Bristol - Dawlish Warren is about the same as Exeter - Par and only one hill to climb.
