    This:
Was the case, so maybe 44422 or a BoB/WC is the final guest? Or maybe they have had trouble acquiring one.
City of Truro would be nice... if not to S&D-ish

  3. The latest stuff on this gala can be found on the official WSR website at Autumn Steam Gala « West Somerset Railway or ring 01643 704996

No mention of 73129 anymore :-(

Has there been a change in publicy/marketing strategy at the WSR? This gala seems to have had the least news releases I can remember for a WSR gala - also seems to have co-insided with the change in your Website Steve, although i'm sure the 2 or not linked.

  6. From messages received, I have reason to believe 73129 is likely appear at this gala...I'm sure WSR Plc will confirm in their own good time.

WSR Plc have a full time professional marketing manager and the Special Events Team have their own approach to publicity and marketing. Beyond that I couldn't possibly comment :)

This is just an idea, but does anybody else feel the goods train starts from the wrong end if its meant to be for people to 'ride the brake van'? Surely it would get more punters starting from and returning to Bishops Lydeard. Maybe Thursday PM MD-BL, Friday AM BL-MD, Friday PM MD-BL, Saturday AM BL-MD, Saturday PM MD-BL and Sunday AM BL-MD would be more beneficial. Also as it passes the first train off BL at Crowcombe, and on Thursday/Friday the last train to BL as well, unless you can drive around there is no way of photoing/filming it on a gradient!

2 tickets booked this morning for the Thursday evening Goods from Bishops Lydeard. Looking forward to the ride, plus the rest of the Gala.

  10. Hold the press: Now WSR confirms Class 4MT 2-6-0 no 43106 will be visiting from the Severn Valley Railway - and No 73129 is not coming.

    Difficult this, eh?

EDIT: We hear there's a "high probablility" that BR 4-6-2 no 70000 "Britannia" will also appear at the Autumn Steam Gala. But caveats apply...

Gutted about the caprotti 5 not coming :-( But the Pig should make a good sound and work a bit harder so a great replacement. Any news on when the WTTs will be available for this event?

Understood Steve ;-) Thanks for the response

  13. WTTS (the "Souvenir Programme") - the guy at Meridian Print who designs and prints the programme was still receiving pics from wsr.org.uk contributors last week so I guess at the earliest it's a week or two away from being published. Again, the official website is the best place for us to check for news.

Probably can't really produce the WTT until the locos have been finalised (although the way things are on the mainline at the moment, it may be difficult to conform 70000's availability a few days before the event).

Oh dear, first the MHR's 'Maunsell' Gala didnt have two of the correct engines promised and now the WSRly 'S&D' Gala has two engines which never worked on the S&D. Great shame about the 5 and why no Bulleid? They were both regulars as were LM 0-6-0s.

    hey
could they not say swap the hall for 34067 or 34053 or they could bring sorely missed 34046 from the works of ian riley but thats highly unlikely
or even try to get 30120, 46521 or 31806 . or what about trying to get a black five prehaps swapping 44806 for 7828 for a llangollen gala

    many thanks
    YRM,

34067 is owned by WCRC and won't visit heritage railways (unless one gets very lucky!)
34053 has just returned to traffic, so I can't see that won't be going anywhere anytime soon.
34046 is progressing at Bury, there are a few photographs on 'the other' forum.
30120 will just've moved from the Bodmin and Wenford, so can't see that visiting.
31806 is, as I understand, booked to run charters in the weeks after the SVR gala following her return to the Mid Hants (facing the 'wrong' way)
*I don't ever recall seeing an Ivatt 2MT on the S&D, which would rule out 46521 (please correct me if I'm wrong!)
The WSR already have one Black 5 attending, 45379... why would they need a second?

So, in short, no they couldn't swap the Hall for 34067 or 34053 or 34046.

*Not being old enough to remember the S&D, I am only going off of photographs that I have seen.

I would appreciate it if someone would comment and point out any mistakes I have made :)

Can't ever remember seeing a LMS 2-6-0 class 2 on the Somerset and Dorset from the years I can recall James, though there were plenty of the Mickey Mouse tank engine variety of the same basic design allocated to the line. Can't recall seeing a photo of one either but! someone out there may know differently.
I think that I read that the remit for the Gala was widened a bit to include other Cross Country trains as well.
Some of the classes mentioned have worked on Galas at the WSR in previous years including the 4F and Tangmere and 73129.
Whilst nice to dream and wish for personal favourites you have to be practical and be grateful for the variety that is promised. Looking forward to the couple of days I can spend riding and watching the Gala.
    Dick
