No, not exactly built for carrying a few thousand containers and have ro-ro ability, is she? :D - Although, in fairness, she is perfectly capable of sailing to Liverpool - I've crossed the Atlantic in a ship smaller than her...

Anyway, back OT - hopefully we'll get confirmation that 8 & 10 are actually on their way very soon - and I should be home from my own ship just as they arrive at Liverpool, so will be heading down the road to Shildon once they arrive there :)

Both locos and tenders on their Mafi's safely stowed aboard by this evening, and Atlantic Conveyor has put to sea again and is on her way to Liverpool. She should be there on Tuesday 2nd Oct, if all goes well.
Still seems like a dream to some of us over here. Can anyone recommend a reasonable hotel in York for a couple of weeks next July?

    Cheers,
    Owd Sweedy.

Too many to choose from mate, there are hundreds of 'em. York is a beautiful city in summer (if it doesn't rain), but it gets very busy if there's a big horse race meeting on. And "John Smiths Cup" day is one of the biggest, 4 day meeting,...............July 2013

Never stayed at the Premier Inn, but have regularly used the restauramt and it is very good. There are actually two hotels with the Working Mens Club in between. One of the aitresses in particular is excellent and if she is typical of the rest of the staff (and all have been very good), then you would be well looked after there!

Plenty of Railway connected activities in Yorkshire and the North East if you are able to make the journey!

Gentlemen, thank you very much for your suggestions regarding accommodation in York, both on and off the forum, it is much appreciated. With such an array of options a tourist is going to be spoiled for choice. Slightly OT, on our news here this morning there was footage of torrential rain and flooding in the north of England and Scotland, including York!
    Cheers

Ah, the good folk of York are used to the Ouse 'doing its thing' on occasion :D

And as Victor says, Race Meetings make the place busy, and the 'John Smiths' meeting is very popular indeed :)

This may be just speculation but some details have appeared about possible move dates.

"Based on arrival Tuesday 2nd and customs cleared pm same, we will then load the
first locomotive and tender, I am assuming on Wednesday morning and deliver to
Shildon on Thursday morning. The second loco. and tender will then be loaded on
Friday morning, which we will deliver to Shildon on Saturday.
Locos will be unsheeted during discharge into Seaforth and sheeted during road
    transfer north."

As I type (08:35) the River Ouse is just hitting it's record high level, 5 meters above normal, York (and the whole of North Yorkshire) are very badly flooded.

If the Atlantic Conveyor gets a gait on it could take them both straight to the NRM :)

This is a great tool. Living in Torbay we often see vessels moored in the bay and say "what's that one?" local paper used to be the source of info in the "ships in the bay" column, but only once a week. Easier now to log on and see. Pity AIS only works near the coast so can't track the A4's location in mid-ocean. here's hoping for a safe passage.

    Hey Fellow Railway Fans,
I was wondering when both of the American A4's arrive at NRM York, which engines will be moved out so 60008 & 60010 can be displayed together with 4468 mallard
but when 60007,60009 & 60019 arrive for display what engines will again be moved out so they can be moved in and put on display.
but i saw on the NRM page that 790 Hardwicke has left york for locomotion shildon.
    if anyone can help
    many thanks
    YRM,

The thought of multiple A4s around the turntable in the Great Hall is mouthwatering but is that the NRM's intention? I would think that the much awaited line up of all six would take place out of doors.

I'd rather hope that the A4's would be displayed outside at York but there isn't much space. I'll probably try York and Shildon to see them anyway. Shildon has better capacity to pose them outside though.

A Media Call was sent out to the press Friday Afternoon by NRM Press team and BIG partnership who are PR agents for Peel Ports.
Accredited Media are asked to confirm attendance by Tuesday and be present in Liverpool at 06:00 Wednesday.
A host of people have been gathered to give interviews including Gary Hodgson, Peel Ports, Ian Higby from ACL, Steve Davis NRM, Chris Beet NRM, Andrew Goodman - Moveright, Ian Hewitt, Heritage Painting, Robin Porter, former director of Exporail, the Canadian National Railway Museum in Montreal & Robin Jones, Editor, Heritage Railway (It says Robin can talk about what this historic homecoming means to railway fans across the UK and the world.).

There cannot be that many locations that have enough parallel lines to pose 6 locomotives on.
