I am interested in going along to this event to take photos and video. I don’t have a track pass so will need to keep to the public areas and footpaths.

What are the best areas to video (without the dreaded noisy children around).

Is anyone else going along to this event to do the same and wouldn’t mind me tagging along for a bit of company.

My knowledge of the railway is not extensive but I went to the autumn gala last year and managed quite a few shots from the various stations and bridges just outside of the stations. Loughborough yard area is good, as is the roadbridge next to the station, for trains coming in to Loughborough. Quorn and Rothley both offer good opportunities and you can also get unobstructed shots of trains coming into Leicester North from the top of the station. Kinchley lane footbridge is a favourite for photographers, although haven't actually done that location as yet myself.

As for the dreaded children you mention, from my experience last year, it's the lineside pass holders with orange jackets who are more likely to walk into your shot. Before I get shot down in flames, I fully respect their right and privilege to walk lineside, but I think a little consideration for people taking shots from public places would be appreciated and wasn't always in evidence last year.

As far as I know, they are on public footpaths, as the ones "in the fields" are the most popular.

Do people meet up and go around in groups at these events,as I have found that killing time between trains can get very boring if you arethere for the whole day.
