Well the Daily Mail think that it is a class L4........ A steamy reunion: The transatlantic cousins of the Mallard come home for the 75 anniversary of the world's fastest locomotive | Mail Online. The Daily Mail also states that thee locomotives arrived in shipping container from Halifax in Canada!

Ahhhhh..... another reason to be proud to be British. Great British press..... 100% accurate ... all the time. Lol. Would love to know where they got that info from.

Then again I guess its on par with what to expect from the Daily Mail - based on their report on Olton Hall movement with Mallard - Shildon - York. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...ress-zips-countryside-way-museum-Muggles.html

By the Standards of the Daily Mail that is a surprisingly well researched story. I hope the Mail, as a courtesy, asked Austins permission to show his YouTube video of Mallard ?

Anyone know the route they will be taking from Seaforth to Shildon? M57 - M62 - M1/A1 perhaps?

I have heard M6 North then A66 to Scotch corner, A1 (M) to Darlington and finally A68 to Shildon. That suprised me as I thought the M62 would have been better, still awaiting word on departure though.

There are a lot of overnight closures on the M62 at the moment and daytime speed restrictions @Jct 25 eastward.

The BBC haven't got their facts right either. They seem to think that Mallard broke the "world land speed record"! It didn't even break the record for a train.

    Re: A4 line up

Dwight D Eisenhower is as I write this note crossing the Pennines on the A66. It left Liverpool Docks at 2.30pm and should be at Shildon before midnight.

It would have been interesting to see an A4 on Deepdale Viaduct!!, guess on a low loader at 20.00 hours will have to do.
Look forward to catching up all the info tomorrow.

I'll bet the drivers of the low loader are having one or two "twitchy" moments going over the A66, There are one or two savage banks to pull up, it's not the easiest of roads with a lot of weight.

Took the afternoon off work to get the Stainmore photo - as yes I think it is a first. But was too dark by the time it would have got there...

'Dwight' is parked on the track beyond the 'paved' area, facing away from the museum and well positioned for photography (best late afternoon). I was told that the two A4s will not be placed on the paved area or moved into the museum until asbestos checks have been completed. They are likely to remain outside until Wednesday. There is ample free space inside the museum to accomodate the two locomotives. If anyone is interested, railbus LEV1 is currently outside, as are the two diesel shunters.
