Cannot see a thread for this one which suprises me, but I am due an eyetest in December if I have missed it.

Enjoy the last steam gala of the year on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway featuring our home fleet engines and currently confirmed visiting engine Great Northern Railway N2 1744 and Great Eastern Railway N7 69621.

Please note that S160 ‘Baldwin’ cannot attend the gala due to the restoration not being ready in time. We apologise for the inconvenience.

Its a pity about the S160, saying that as churnet have still to run her in I have feeling its to early to expect her to take on the moor's, would be better next spring once she has some miles under her belt, I know the plan is to have the S160 a week or so later whuch I gouess means 1940's week, but the expectation when she was booked early this year was she would have been run in by now and any teathing issues addressed, as I said will be asking a lot to take on the NYMR at this late stage. N7 isn't no S160 either but she would be ideal on few carrages running shuttles from pickering to Levisham which has been done before and would add something extra to that end of the line. Yep I know its not on the current game plan, but as I said the N7 isn't an S160 and would make better use of what we have.

Note, the above is suggestion given what fate has dealt us.

Is there no Whitby - Battersby service running on the weekend? Shame as I was wanting that...

Don't forget that this Sunday will probably be the last chance for the present format of Battersby service, with the extended (and improved!) Northern Summer Sunday service hoped to begin next Spring.

45428 and 75029 will be doing the honours.

The new Northern service does have the slots necessary for the NYMR to be able to run services to Whitby when it is operating.

A selection of mine from today (Saturday) can be found here: steam on heritage lines -   Lot of walking for very little gain unfortunately, but not a bad second half of the day.

Can I ask a genuine question?
Is there any reason why every photo collection I have seen from this event, features Grosmont - Goathland - Summit with some occaisional shots of the Battersby runs but I have not seen anything at all of Pickering - Summit.

Was there nothing to attract the photographer?
    What can be done?

Firstly the photo opportunities between Grosmont and Moorgates are easier to access and secondly tender locos running backwards are not very appealing.

2 mile hike into the middle of nowhare, tender first unless something is facing whitby, and if it is its coming out of the sun, oh and going there for one shot will cost you 4-5 shots and half a day.

As the last gala suffered from a lack of visiting engines (and ones capable of pulling a normal length train) a selling point would have been to feature some locos facing the other way. I have walked from Ellerbeck down into Newtondale and there are some great photo locations down there but you do miss a lot of action elsewhere if you do.

Have to agree, as you will see from my photo's posted earlier in the thread, that a lot of effort in getting to locations hasn't paid off due to gradient vegetation and SUN!
Haven’t even posted the poorer shots. Although a glorious part of the line it is very difficult to get a reasonable shot when all engines face Pickering.
