If true, hopefully the wheel can be sorted. If not though there is another new build project building a pattern for 5'8" wheels, so shouldn't be the end of the world.

I took these pics. And yes there does seem to be an issue with one of the wheelsets. But I'm sure there Will be a way to sort it. Seems stupid that for years of br service they were fine. But now h + s stops it all.

I can't remember if these were the ones that came from 4156 after she was scrapped, or whether they are the ones that were originally preserved with 7325.

If from 4156, then they haven't seen use since the 60s when she was withdrawn.

If from 7325 then they last saw use 80s/90s whenever 7325 received 4156s.

Nothing to do with H&S, its called working to engineering standards.

Very true Martin. I'm informed being on a locomotive when something fairly important like a wheel breaks is not a very pleasant experience. Improved standards mean improved reliability. Broken parts out on the big railway usually mean big bills for Delay Minutes.

When do they publish the amount raised? Is a shame the weather didn't come off for sss3 but it still seemed busy every day. Hopefully still a large amount raised for the cylinders.

Steam Railway reports this month that the figure was £43,322 with some further positive adjustments likely over the coming weeks. They also report that the coal bill was an eye watering £27,500.

Hopefully we can utilise the momentum to raise further funds and to actually build the loco :)

    Cheers Gavin.

As the website hasn't been updated, does anyone know the latest on the Grange build? With thousands attending the fund-raising Gala two months ago, I don't think I am alone in enquiring of any progress.

May i suggest you PM the chairman of 6880 he's on Nat Pres as wait for ...." Mr Perfection "
You will find him in the SSS3 thread all two of his posts are there
Reading though the SSS3 thread in comparison to the SSS2 thread from 2009, the 6880 chairman seems quite absent..! notching up many replies to potential interested visitors in 2009 along with what now seem to be the old SSS team
A great shame his actions were not repeated for SSS3 as it was a great way of getting the information out so letting people decide when and where to go

1960s event went quite well. I spent most of Saturday selling raffle tickets for 6880 Summer Draw. SSS and LR2011 DVDs were selling well too.

You seem to have an issue with the amount that the chairman of the grange group is (or isn't) posting on this forum.

Well why dont you get involved with them and sort out their website, and posts on National Preservation!

    News Update:

I have just noticed the 6880 website has been updated, announcing the introduction of umbrellas to the 6880 merchandise.

Could have been useful for SSS3 !!!

New 6880 Umbrella announced | Betton Grange 6880

It seems to be only available in red.

I do hope corporate black with red and white writing will be made available as that will be much more macho!!

It really is a shame that the best thing that the group can put on their website in 3 months is some new umbrellas!

What about some pictures or information on current progress which is what people actually want to read about.

The PR side of this project is way behind that of other projects
