Agreed it is a good shot Stuart.
I took a couple of vid clips today and should post a link tonight or tomorrow.
Also looking forward to next Saturday as the ticket came today.

Arrived into Newcastle central station at 1912.

Does anyone know why the loco arrived into Newcastle with no head light??

Nice to see the train double headed with class 47 diesels. Prince William taking the train back to York.

Here at Durham, I spent ages trying to find somewhere to get a picture of the viaduct but it seems I'd have to scale the castle walls to do so!

    Rather nice that!

My efforts can be found here: steam on the main line network -
61994 The Great Marquess seen near Stillington - 33 minutes down, Urlay nook, departing Darlington platform 1 for North road and finally taking water at Darlington North road. Class 47 47760 was at the rear. 47 reported a failure above my first shot but seemed to be fixed in order to depart north road. Did it get to Redmire in the end??

I have it from a good source that the initial class 47 failed whilst trying to climb the hill at Constable Burton and K4 then returned it back to Northallerton where Prince William joined on the back and returned the train to Darlington. Train did not get to Redmire. Hope this helps.

Wharton Park is a good (free) location - there have been some classic shots taken from there over the years, or pay up & go to the top of the Cathedral :)

    Cheers

61994 crosses the River Blyth at Kittybrewster southbound which is very unusual for a railtour from Newcastle

As a participant I can confirm the failure of the 47 at Constable Burton. 61994 tried valiantly to push us up the hill but with the fast ECML journey ahead it was thought better to let us stand for 1 hour or so than thrash it and have it fail on the mainline. Apparently 47 was ifi at North Road and a replacement sent for from York. 47 failed momentarily on ECML but 61994 kept us going until it restarted. Problem was reported to be water in fuel, not a breakdown then, more maintenance care related perhaps. 61994 was watered at between Morpeth and Hepscott, North Road Station, Leeming Bar Station, and Darlington Down Loop. It ran superbly, if we had had OC as planned the day would have been a dream.

Thanks for confirming my suspicions, just glad I didn’t waste my afternoon standing at Redmire like many photographers did no doubt.
