Were planning on something similar. A large tv with the part one DVD about the project so far. Andrew Kennedy from Oakwood press has been filming every part of the construction so far, from the cutting of the frames to the casting of most components and the wheeling of the axles.

Also our plan for Warley 2013.

As you can see from this image were hoping to have all this on display. The only uncertainty is the front bogie. This is all dependent on when our second wheelset becomes available.

Gav, a few words of description of each photo would help...

    Thanks for the updates.

Just to say that's some progress made and that the Warley Show is a good target to aim for.

Yes we do plan on mainline running and we believe we can get the fowler tender to 4000 Gal, this should then see us able to fit in with the Stanier tenders out there.

Thanks Gav, those are big chunks of metal aren't they, it's only when you see them like in this state that you can appreciate what weight there is whirling round when a loco is travelling at speed.

Just wondering Gav, where are you going to get this second set of bogie wheels I've been hear so much about? Any progress on that?

Second set of bogie wheels are from the Turkish 8F at GWSR. So from what i understand Mike Hoskin and his team are acquiring 44901 from Barry and require some spare parts, some of which will be coming from Turkey as there scrapping an 8F out there, so when they return with said parts they are also bringing a wheelset with a thicker tyre to go under Turkish 8F at Todd. Well thats my understanding of it anyway. And i dont know of any progress on that front if im honest, im presuming were waiting on 44901 to move to Todd, then they will acquire the parts from Turkey? But thats only a guess and has no basis in reality.

The whistle has now been acquired for 'The Unknown Warrior' thanks to Bob Maxwell and David Hughes who between them have donated it to the Project. The LNWR type whistle is in ex stores condition and is believed to have never been fitted but is the correct type for a Patriot.

Also we have a one page article in the latest Heritage Railway, and for anyone who like the New Jonathan Clay image seen there here is a link to get your very own. Creating the new Royal British Legion Endorsed National Memorial Engine

Today is an appropriate day, if ever there was one, to remind ourselves of the importance of this LMS new-build locomotive in the bigger scheme of things. Looking at my copy of David Bradshaw's evocative painting of 45551 as it will be in 2018, (the only railway painting permitted in our lounge!) I am very glad that I renewed my membership of this new-build project, which is gaining momentum steadily. In less than 2 years' time we will be commemorating the start of the First World War in August 1914. It would be wonderful to see 45551 looking almost complete (given that the boiler will no doubt be the last major item to be completed)by then. That's up to us of course.

    Well said.

On another note we had our AGM yesterday at Kidderminster railway museum, and a great turn out of around 60 people, all went away happy with the progress to date, and happy knowing that were still hitting every target to date financially, obviously this will only get bigger and we need more support to achieve each years target.

But now to change the subject, here are some more pictures for you. This time on the work started on the smokebox
    [IMG]
Here we have the new smokebox tubeplate
    [IMG]
    Smokebox barrel/wrapper

The smokebox is being completed by LNWR Crewe and should be finished by the end of Jan.

Also the second tender has now arrived at Llan
    [IMG]

This is now being stripped down to be assessed/costed to be refurbished. Once completed it could either be hired out or used by Llan on a loco being hired in for a gala to cut transport costs. I for one would love to see a fowler tendered Jub or 8F.

I would happily build a re built pat once we have this one. But weather the board want to build anything else or not all depends on having enough money and volunteers to run this one and then progress to another. But i suppose if tornado can do it maybe one day we could manage it. Time will tell.

It looks like the Patriot project may not be the only LMS new build with the possibility of a Fowler 2 6 4 Tank if one has read the latest Steam Railway
A group is researching the possibility of building new one
It certainly looks to be an ideal locomotive to have for most Heritage lines
