    Re: Galatea

    Well said Dave!!!!!!

However be carefull, there are some on here ready to flame anybody for even mentioning the original consortium or any of the alleged dealings regarding ownership.
Maybe these people were involved and have something to hide. You only have to look in the news to see that injustices and wrong doings never really go away.

The main thing is that the loco is looking like it will steam again soon and i'm sure that is the outcome welcomed by all concerned.

    Re: Galatea

I think ralphw is correct here. I have been on two Mersey moorlanders with him, I was selling raffle tickets and most of the people on those trips knew nothing about locos or anything. We had to tell most people who we were where as at an enthusiast gala most people know who we are.

I also agree with both you and Ralph as a group of my family and friends travelled on a Fellsman tour behind 5690 a couple of years since and out of the seven of us only my old man and me were confirmed steam buffs the rest were just enjoying a day out and the scenery on view . Cant see any problem myself in what Carnforth do at the end of the day as they provide so many jobs in difficult times .

And you only pointed out one error, what about disel, Wext Coat.... and in my defence it was down to Bruichladdich Barley at 40%.

    Re: Galatea

Dream on........ I would hardly call selling a few pens, notebooks and a mediocre oo gauge model a 'Superb' marketing set up!! A digital parts catalogue certainly doesn't get anywhere near fixing an engine in that state. And from what i remember they were donated a single connecting rod which hardly qualifies as lots of motion parts, the rest would have required a significant outlay, which i doubt would ever have been raised under the last regime.
Any how with your post, peraphs you might comment on the integrity of the above named group and what they actually did with the money they took from people in good faith as a donation for the rebuild of this loco?
Was it passed on to the charity that now owns the loco? For what it was originally donated?

I don't know the full story but mostly on bloody expensive legal fees, trying to get justice for the people who put their hard earned into 5699 and had it snatched away from them.

    Re: Galatea

My My Gromit, you really do have an axe to grind on this subject don't you.

If you know how much was raised and what it what spent on then please enlighted us, especially if there was misuse of funds, I for certain don't have a clue.

What I do know is that this group SPENT alot of money on the loco.
Take the wheel pattern for example, this must of cost a few quid as it didn't manufacture itself.
What is a legacy of this consortium though is that the same pattern was used recently by the team working on the new build Patriot project so they are still contributing to the preservation movment.

For all we know when the consortium lost the loco there might not have been any funds in the pot - they may even have been in debt but you do seem to want to assume the worst of these people.

    Re: Galatea

No axe to grind at all, that seems to be your demain!

Every time this loco seems to come on topic, the same old gripe!!

Why suddenly are you not so clued up on it all!!

I too have no clue how much was raised, Nor should I have, I just simply asked the question as I thought you were the one that would know........

As for spending money, who knows who spent what? How do you know such things if your so inparcial?

I don't know where my brain is but I'm beginning to wonder if Leander is nearing completion. I bet I'm completely wrong.

    Re: Galatea

Takes a bit of fiding but there is a comment from sweetktg on that thread

.......Also update on Galatea. According to a more talkative member of the train staff its first test run is looking very likely to be this year still as it's not far off. They're hoping to have Leander ready at roughly the same sort of time too. So nothing concrete but looking good.

I have little doubt it will look good. I just hope it proves to be more reliable than some of Carnforths other recently overhauled locos.

It was either in this thread or another that double headed Jubilee's have double headed on the GCR and I think the ELR. Not on the mainline as far as I know.

    Re: Galatea

There have been many 'leaks' from 'insiders' about the return of Galatea, several dates have already passed, I wonder if someone there is taking great delight in letting these whispers out to see how much credence they get, or to put it another way taking the p.

You may have a point there as at the time of writing, there are 7 guests and 7 members looking at this thread,

Sometimes it is more guests than members.

    Food for thought?
