    As the advert says:

    Can't be 80078 as she hasn't steamed since 2009.

Why not – they already have form in having multiple engines of one type. Already had 80100 unrestored, then 80064 arrives, works then needs an overhaul, so put it to one side and get another in the shape of 80151. A 3rd 9F would be same principle but a few more wheels. Simples!

80064 and 80151 aren't owned by the Bluebell...

I think it shows how much he cares about 92203 that he wants to see in it safe hands rather than any possible uncertainty when his time comes, a tough and heartbreaking decision for him I've no doubt, but it's certainly the right one.

Isn't there an issue with 10 coupled Loco's on the Cauldon Lowe section ?, otherwise would be a good fit at Cheddleton, can't for the life of me see how they could afford it mind.

I think most of us at llan would love to have it. Anyone fancy buying it and funding the overhaul though??

Black Prince won't be able to move to the buyers railway until the NNR's loan is over!
I think it could go to GCR or Stay at the NNR

The GCR's flat though, so no challenges for a 9f on small loads.
It did look right at home on the WSR though...

Er, I do believe that the 9F's did some of their most memorable work on the "Windcutters" on the former GCR main line..... Reckon it could be "right at home".....

    cheers

Right with that. I'm not sure that they were overstretched, though, and they certainly won't be on the present day GCR, even if you hang every available 16 tonner behind them.

If the reason to preserve 92203 is to challenge and overstretch the loco, perhaps Merehead would be the ideal place for it, I wonder if Foster Yeomans are interested....

    Cheers

The Yeoman family sold the business to Aggregate Industries (AI) several years ago. The railway operation is actually run by DB-Schenker with the terminals, locomotives and rolling stock managed by Mendip Rail (a company jointly owned by AI and Hanson)

I seem to recall Yeoman were involved with the Diesel Hydraulic Western Campaigner on the WSR some years ago, hence it carrying the indentity of Western Yeoman for a period ?.

The point surely isn't about stretching the engine but rather it being used in an environment suited to its capabilities, it would be an uneconomic machine to run on a flat line with a handful of coaches. Even on the NYMR, 92214 with a seven coach train is not stretched but it is arguably better suited to the job than, say, a black 5 which Steve tells us (and he should know) is approaching its limits.

I doubt there's anywhere in preservation that really requires class 9 power, but a ridiculously overpowered loco is still better than no loco, Barry wasn't full of 250 Standard 4 tanks remember.

If i read the item correctly, David Sheppard said that his over riding thought was that Black Prince goes to a good home, rather an who might pay the most for the engine, so i would assume this would mean that it would not be sold to the highest bidder, but to someone who would look after it best, this can only mean that it might go to a railway that has looked after it in the past, GCR, Mid Hants , or WSR are the most likily candidates
