That is fantastic. I've noticed that drivers seem interested in 60009's whistle. Most videos I've seen since she returned she's been whistling.

    Gutted I missed this one.

    Great shot at Gilsland Henry.

I think Stuart's shot at Newbiggin might work well in b&w?

Many thanks for sharing to all.

Lovely shots again, Stuart. Well done for braving the cold, & thanks for putting them up. (That bit about the cold goes for all the photters who were out there - it looked chuffin' nippy...)

They are indeed - the racket from it just idling whilst we were at Hellifield, even from 8 coaches away, was very noticeable. IMO it was quiescent pretty much all day. No complaints about it <ahem> 'helping' from me...

Apologies if I've inadvertently missed thanking photo/video contributors individually - all much appreciated. We had a great day out; the train was well filled, timing not too badly out - pity about being held at Hellifield for a late-running unit to clear the section after Hellifield - would that have been Skipton these days? I'm not well up on the remaining block posts after Hellifield now, I'm afraid :( . The food & service on board was excellent and it was nice to see John Cameron on the footplate when we got to Carlisle - I for one would like to place my thanks to him for 60009 and 61994 being active these days. Thanks also to everyone who made it all happen; footplate and support crews, office staff, on-train crews and everyone else involved.

Fabulous shots as always David, as has already been commented the approach through the bridge in the dark worked so well, the white exhaust really standing out, and Kirkby Stephen station looks good in all conditions.

Nice to see No. 9 and 61994 parked up outside the NRM next to each other yesterday.

Doesn't 57601 "idle" on something like notch 4 when providing ETH?

Given the sleety blizzard (and not expecting a diesel helper) I didn't specifically photo the back of the train on Saturday morning but now I'm home from the Yorkshire weekend trip and looking at my photo of the special leaving York on the Clifton curve the back of the train is visible and it looks like one of the maroon 47s not a 59. (Photo to come later) Can anyone tell me what the number was of the box on the back when it left York please?

Sorry this one's a bit late and thanks for the diesel info' phil.

60009 with 57601 visible on the back leaving York Saturday 27th October. Interesting to note that the leaking right drain cock visible later on in the trip in other photos was open (faulty?) from the start. Interesting day for specials. About 10 mins earlier the Northern Belle had gone north with DRS 47 818 on the front and a Pullman livery 47 on the back. About two hours later another diesel special was spotted with a 59 on a rake of blood and custard coaches also heading north! (Couldn't photo it I was driving the van)
