Is all this closure business linked to a certain disastrous Spad involving a counterfeit driver?

Gosh that sounds so bad, however does Eurotunnel manage to do it every 45 minutes... And motorail still runs from Hamburg daily.

I have actually thought DBS may be successful running an overnight motorail/sleeper from East London, down HS1 to Berlin.. There's thousands of Poles driving each way along that route everyday with luggage like you wouldn't believe..I'm sure they would take the option to reduce the drive time by 18hours

 

I just can't imagine the British public taking to it unless you can offer serious time saving, serious convenience at an affordable price. I'm not saying it would be like that, necessarily, but that it may well be seen like that. Point about the Eurotunnel - 45minutes, stay in your car. Wouldn't be an option on a 3-4 hour run from London/the Midlands.

Moreover, I can't imagine Network Rail delivering.

 

Agreed motorail between London and the Midlands is as much as use as a high speed rail between Old Oak and Birmingham.
Motorail between London and Scotland in conjunction with the sleeper may make sense, but in reality thats a long train already, and a separate train wouldnt stand up economically.
London and Germany/Switzerland/Italy/Spain cutting out all the customs mess could stack up, problem is the rail vehicles to support it are in Canada now.

 

There was a Motor Rail service in 1973 which i used that went from Olympia Station in London to Newton Abbot in devon, i used it at the time because of one of the first Petrol Shortages troubles. i think it was discontinued about 1978.

 

A friend of mine once heard an Australian ask for a ticket to Looga-barooga (Loughborough to you and me!)

 

There are some place names in Australia that may cause you and me similar problems!

 

If you don't go by Eurotunnel, you have to go by car ferry - same distance but a lot slower, and often a bit bumpy.

Much longer distances than within the UK.

Don't have to go Australia to have problems, just a few miles west of Shrewsbury or some of the villages and suburbs of Manchester can produce some pre-written language names.
