I can categorically state that 42859 has not arrived at Sellindge. It is definitely coming to Sellindge in the future but no date has been set. Will that do you for the moment?

To make buying a product worthwhile there must be "added value" There hasn't been sufficient of that for me to consider buying these magazines for well over a decade now. If garish speculation is your thing then fine - you spend your money. I'll not be joining you.

I agree with that 100%. I haven't bought any of those magazines for about ten years. Although occasionally I see them kicking around in messrooms and the like. This is the second time recently I've heard of negative pieces being written about this engine. Not sure if it was the same mag though. The first one was a letter from the chairman of the Patriot project, the main thrust of which was berating other people for becoming involved in new build projects - yet he's involved in at least two himself - What an arrogant hypocritical t0 55 3r.

They don't know anything, yet they have the front to call themselves journalists. Seems like they need to find a nice easy target to have a go at in a futile attempt to sell their rags. Some people fall for it though I suppose. The only railway periodical worth reading these days is BRILL, but it can be hard to find.

As with any publication you sift through the rubbish to find the bits that are worthwhile! I must admit I have thought about pulling my Sub to Heritage Railway several times of late as it is getting more and more like the Daily Mail each issue, but somehow each time they come up with something that catches my interest so i'll stay put for the time being! Steam Railway however has really sharpened up it's act of late and I would seriously recommend people take another (unbiased) look at it. HR won't improve until it has a freshen up of it's editorial team and improves relations with the number of organisations it has 'annoyed' with fantasy reporting. Anyway, back on topic..

    Re: L.m.s Crab 42859

I am inclined to go along with Mr Acorb -I do all my magazine reading in our messroom, it's all about 2months or even years out of date but the grapevine works well enough for urgent news or gossip! Must admit that when Steam Railway first came out I religiously bought every copy(bi-monthly as it was to start)- it really inspired me to get involved in railway preservation from a previous stance on the sidelines.

I enquired today regarding the accuracy of the reports that it is moving to Sellindge and was told that parts of it already arrived some weeks ago.

What makes you think that she has been sold?

35011 is at Sellindge and some restoration has been started. 2859 is supposed to be moving there to be restored by the 35011 group. I've never seen any mention of the loco being sold.

That is why I was a bit confused about it going to Sellindge, and probably jumped to conclusions about it being sold. Apologies and you know what they say about assumption ............................................................

That seems like a very old picture, I am told pre-2004.

This is a pic I got from the NB loco preservation group which was dated last month. Their interest being that the tender is NB built 1925. The tender has been assembled and the engine wheels are ready to receive the frame and boiler. They say the engine and tender were due to be loaded this week, to leave the site Friday. But a scrap merchant has run off with the loco wheels in the last few days. So it's not going anywhere.

Yes, and apparently not. Pieces of them were seen at Riddels yard in Horncastle, LN9 5PN late last week.

Amazing in this day and age isn't it?

I just had to post this after the exchanges promoting the scrapping of the engine at Ongar. Seems to be the way things are going.

Not a problem, just follow the liverpudlian method. Should be able to find some bricks somewhere... ;)

I wasn't even aware the loco wheels were still with her, the only wheels visible in pictures for the last couple of years has just been 1 driving set, was starting to think they may have been another item currently on 13065

I hope someone has the book slung at them for this, absolutely tragic news. She was in a bad enough way as it was, but I hope that one day she'll steam. It's pessimistic to say it, but it seems unlikely though.

    Re: L.m.s Crab 42859

If the coupled wheels have gone, it becomes an even more "deep pockets" exercise, so I guess that will be the end for 42859.

Are the police investigating the theft?
