BBC News - Sussex team test restored Bluebird at speed

That prop-shaft didn't look very clever after the test run.

Just shows what torque the engine has and how much resistance a prop in water has, oh well back to the drawing board, and what poor quality video.

I think the poor quality video was supposed to copy the old black & white film, but the effect was seriously over-used. I couldn't work out which was current and which was original.

I know what you mean. On balance I'm in favour of it as Bill Smith & co have behaved in a respectful manner throughout - without them Donald Campbell wouldn't have had a proper funeral.

Once the wreck of K7 had been found, there was a real risk of it being robbed as it wasn't a protected site; as I understand it, the wreck was raised primarily to prevent this. Titanic is a grave site for over 1500 people, but that hasn't stopped people trawling the wreck with grapnels for profit.

Of course, then you have the problem of what to do with it once raised - conserve the shattered remnant (at great cost) & then display it as a horrific reminder, or restore it as far as possible & return it to some form of operation. Once you ask that question there can only be one answer.

Today's report in the Telegraph is pretty good:—

Ultimately, if it's OK with Gina Campbell, that's all that really matters in my book.

    Pete.
