I think the guy by me would have waded in and sunk it by hand if he could have... wish id kept filming but I wouldn't have been able to post it due to the "colourful" language...

Yes, a veritable lexicon of profanity was to be heard when the speed boat arrived. 10/10 for initiative in hiring it but 0/10 for consideration for other photographers. Didn't bother me as the light wasn't particularly good and I'd already decided on the "going away" shot anyway but a lot of other people were miffed by the sounds of it.

I remember somebody hiring a helicopter many years ago to get aerial footage of steam on the Central Wales line - very selfish and inconsiderate, even if legal. A rowing boat would have been less disruptive for others, and might even have given the scene a bit of life.

Well. Wasn't having the entire Looe branch as a giant train set good enough? I mean, Railway Enthusiasm is never going to take over the world now is it!!!

Good grief - I wasn't aware that the fare (for those photographers who paid it ;) ) also gave exclusive rights to govern navigation on the river too. Photters have to realise that 'normals' have no idea that anything out of the ordinary is going on and most don't give a flying fig. They have every right to carry on with their lives without being abused by anti-social 'enthusiasts'.

Some great videos and photo's on here, with and without said boat.

Quite a few photters had also booked a ticket for the day and I don't think those in the boat were "normals". Doesn't excuse the language though.

As someone who's hired a Cessna to chase a Torbay Express along the sea wall before I'm keeping quiet! Though to be fair, we flew far enough away not to be a nuisance, and we certainly weren't in the way of anyone's shot or video.

Next time hire a Tiger Moth and get it in the shot. That would be very nice. :)

Or an MTB ;) Were they around early enough to overlap with the Railmotor?

The Royal Navy had them in WW1 so would be well in keeping with the rail motor, especially if used to sink modern high speed launches. :)

You mean to say that the whole world doesn't revolve around photters?

We'd better set up a Photters Counselling Helpline!!

Sometimes, the reaction from one's fellows is worse than the cause of the irritation! And it's not usually ill-mannered youth. The last couple of times it's hapened to me, it has been blokes more than old enough to know better. It's the audio equivalent of walking in front of someone else's camera. All part of life's rich pattern, I suppose, but it's hard to be "philosophical" about it at the time.

Never mind, the forecast for Sunday looks promising, so I hope everyone going to Looe, passengers and on-lookers alike, have a great time.

Yep I keep checking the forecast for Sunday each day and it seems to keep improving every time so fingers crossed! Looking forward to finally getting down to Cornwall and having a ride on the Railmotor.

Last week the forecast kept improving until Saturday night gave full sun for the day. What we actually got was some sunny intervals, long periods of cloud and some showers. So don't rely on the Met Office too much although for your sake I hope it's a cracking day.

Well we'll see about the weather though I'm riding so I don't really mind so long as it doesn't rain! Anyone else on the 10:30 out of Liskeard?

I like the way you've expressed that - well said! Sure, I can understand the speedboat being an annoyance (wasn't around down there when it appeared), but this is the 21st century, and there is always the risk of some other aspect of modern life intruding. Perhaps we should be thankful that the car that crashed down the bank onto the Looe branch on Sunday 3rd November didn't do so a week later..... (well, perhaps if it had been a Model T Ford it might have been acceptable, but sadly I think it was a Toyota...!)

The weather forecast for tomorrow is indeed looking good, hopefully a repeat of last weeks weather, but without the rain! I thought the cloudy intervals added to the atmosphere, personally.

The steaming issue certainly improved as the day went by, a bit of a 'learning curve' perhaps, but all credit to the footplate crews last Sunday, for coming to grips with the never-before-done combination of steam rail motor on new (to them) line. Having read the comments about not firing on the move, I also understand this to be the case. If you think about where the rail motor has run so far in service (Llangollen & Bodmin and Wenford lines), then the distance between stops is around 2 - 3 miles, give or take. It's around 6.5 miles up from Looe to Coombe, so that is an interesting comparison with 'what has gone before'.

That's a bit lightweight, surely a quinquereme would be more fitting for the occasion. :)

I agree - 'photter' is such an inelegant word. :)
