TORNADO IN BLUE TO VISIT DIDCOT ON 25 NOVEMBER

A special event is being held at Didcot next Sunday for Covenantors of the A1 Steam Locomotive Trust to have a close-up view of new-build A1 class 60163 Tornado in BR blue livery for the first time.
The railway centre will also be open the public as usual from 10.30 on Sunday. We are planning to run diesel railcar 22 for train rides during the day.

It's only another different livery, so I don't see why there should be any fuss. Crimson lake would look better in my view.

I think the Blue suits her very well! At least Tornado has had a long overdue paint job. Look forward to seeing it down the South-East soon.

I spotted the error straight away! Had it been included, it would have made a vast improvement I think. Still, impressive photoshop work...

So… safe to say that the iPhone isn't ideal through the window of an HST at high speed, but you can hopefully see a bit of blurry blue A1 tender behind Britannia below…

You could have a scoop here - get that photo sent to the railway magazines straight away.

EDIT: Looking at it again, are you sure it wasn't this you saw?

For those that have it there's a picture on the A1 Trusts Facebook page. Although its a picture of David Elliott, Ian Matthews and Jon Pridmore in front of the loco but its on from a bit of the frames up not a full reveal.

    I'm detecting sarcasm… ;-)

Anyway, unless they've sneaked SNG down from Yorkshire, I think we can safely say that Tornado is parked outside Southall at the moment. If you're heading into or out've Paddington this afternoon, you should be able to sneak a peek as you go past.

Here's the same image from the A1SLT website.... what a tease! Jon Pridmore, David Elliott and "Rembrandt" himself, Ian Matthews.

If the colour reproduction in that image is anything like correct it's closer to caledonian blue than I was expecting

Good photo of her almost complete on page 9 of the latest Heritage Railway. Looks the same shade as 60007 to me.

Disappointing rake of mk1s in the way this morning, so no further blurry photos of what may or may not have been a blue tender I'm afraid… ;-)

A few screenshots from my video at a rather foggy Ashbury Crossing near Shrivenham, she looks bloody lovely in blue :)

Video to follow later once I've filmed the return and got all the footage edited and uploaded to YouTube.

I agree Kristian, she looks superb. Here are two stills from Twyford, the video will soon be on the What's Going On thread for the excursion

My contribution to this thread is my short video of 60163 racing along the GWML at Challow foot crossing and Uffington. The link is below.

The light was very disappointing this morning, which, as has been mentioned previously, has done nothing to show off this wonderful colour. BR blue is my favourite livery, and I was beyond delighted when it was announced that 60163 would be going blue for late-2012 and 2013. Now all we need is a decent rake of coaches! :D
