    Ha all,

With recent the high profile return of 'Michael', 'King of the Scarlets' and the superb restoration of 'Dorothea' and 'Hugh Napier' it got me once again thumbing through Cliff Thomas' excellent book about the Quarry Hunslets of North Wales- and having looked through I was wondering whether anyone has any more recent information on a few of the loco's that seem to have disappeared from the limelight; eg. Cackler, Margaret, Elin, Sybil etc.

Just genuinely interested as they are charming little loco's- looking into trying to do a footplate day on one next year as well.

    Many thanks in advance!

    Chris

Cackler is still at Thursford museum.
Margaret I believe is slowly coming together at the Vale of Rheidol.
Elin is at the Yaxham Light Railway, where I understand she is being rebuilt to more closely resemble a "standard" qh. Pity really - that Marshall boiler made her something a bit different, like the ex-Bronllwyd boiler (and cab) on Pamela.
Sybil has recently steamed at her long term home on the Brecon Mountain Railway.

Pretty much, I would say that Cliff Thomas' book is still definative, with the exception of the repatriated lococs of the last couple of years

    Many thanks for that Selsig.

Thats good to know that things are moving forward with them, the other obvious omission I made I suppose is what the progress on the Lady Madcap reconstruction? The WHR website has said more or less the same for some time?

(Is there any news on Pamela incidentally?)

Lady Madcap is a rolling Chassis and is now on display in the WHHR heritage centre, I have had two conversations with one of the builders in the last 12 months, and in both these he was adamant that the boiler would be ordered 'soon', however soon, could be interpreted in more than one way...

I had hoped that getting him to play with ELIDIR when it visited the WHHR would have convinced him to get a wriggle on...

Wonder which loco that has come off? Good to hear that progress is being made! Does anyone know if Cackler has been moved inside at Thursford as all of the pictures I have found show it looking fairly forlorn sat outside?

I wonder if that is the one that was at Durley for sale by Auction not so long back?

If it is salvageable it would be great to see it and the wheel sets used on a restoration project somewhere.

It's not from Dursley, it's a Port Class boiler and was from an earlier restoration of another loco, plus the wheelsets. It would be nice for one Lady to end up helping another Lady.
