12 minutes, not much time really, but I guess the trip has all been re-timed, at least they don't have to change the wheels!

Yes, as royals pete says, when Bells & Two Tones are supplying the water, the stop can be very quick for two simple reasons...

    - They have the hoses out ready when the train arrives - just a case of connect the pipe to the tender and turn the pump one.
    - They use high power pumps (sometimes two of them) capable of delivering the water very quickly.

Makes a huge difference compared to the water stops we seen in the past where the train arrives, support crew then have to find the fire hydrant, clear all the gunk out of the hydrant, lay out several hundred feet of hoses, wait for ages while the hydrant delivers water at a slightly lower presssure than the average kitchen sink tap, then roll all the hoses up again.

Or the infamous Retford paddling pool with 6024 a few years ago. I seem to remember the tanker that turned up didn't have the right hoses or connections, so the fire brigade were called and assembled what was basically a paddling pool. The water from the tanker was pumped into the pool, then pumped into the tender. Took a while!

Absolutely. This set up in particular is one of the unsung heroes who are organised and efficient making so much difference to the speed with which water stops can be undertaken. When they are in charge you can almost reduce a water stop to something not far adrift from when there was a supply at the end of the platform. It's a service that we enjoy down south. Can't say that the experience has been the same on occasions up north (unless they make the journey).

Unless the schedule has some slack running somewhere, there isn't much chance to make that up, the water and pathing stops are very short.

See my earlier comments about Bells & Two Tones - I reckon that's about 30 minutes from Didcot to departing Oxford (about 10 miles) including the water stop at Hinksey.
