Through Barnes - Vine Road (South) level crossing - at 1258. And as if by magic, the torrential rain stopped just as the barriers came down.

As a relative newcomer to this forum, I'd like to thank everyone who takes the time and trouble to post photos, videos and information here. It gives a great deal of enjoyment. Happy Christmas!

I know that I'm a trifle biased but it really is remarkable that this locomotive just goes about its business on the Orient Express pullmans 20+ times a year, always looking absolutely superb, lugging around 600 tons up hill and down dale on time as though it's on a 'walk in the park' with a few coaches on a quiet branch line.

It's as remarkable as the similar work that has been done this year by the likes of VTL with their Shakespeare Express, and of course, West Coast with The Jacobite.

2012 has continued to show preservation on the main line at its best. And I know that it's what you would expect from the country that gave us these wonderful beasts but I'm sure that at times our much maligned Network Rail does take a deep breath when the wheels come off in a spectacular fashion. Yet here we are hopefully looking forward to more of the same in 2013. So thank you EVERYONE for making it happen.

To be fair, on the VSOE its always got a smart modern diesel on the back and its not exactly a punishing timetable on the Surrey circular route, tho the route is a hilly one, but yes its a reliable old bus. VSOE demand it, given the prices they charge.

The crew always have time for a good whistle and a wave!

Here it is joining the main line at Byfleet & New Haw.

That video is superb! What equipment and editing software are you useing? We were going to film at Shalford today but it was hammering it down with rain when it was time to leave Horsham at 1:30 so decided to save it for Tornao in Kent tomorrow

I use iMovie on a macbook air to edit (sometimes powerdirector 10 on PC, but iMovie produces cleaner video) and a Fuji HS10 to film. To be honest the Fuji is not ideal for video, in video mode there is no manual controls of any kind, the autofocus is easily fooled, and the manual zoom ring is sticky, but as an all rounder Stills and Video camera is not bad, and it means I only ever take one camera with me on holidays as well, makes it an easy purchase to get past the financial director at home. :preggers:

A few hardy souls ( soles ) at Redhill on Saturday. Agree with all the comments re Clan Line's regularity. I miss its sojourns at Westbury though, now that the Bath runs water at Newbury.

Thats another good video from alts1985. What video camera and software do you use? I really must upgrade mine. I filmed Tornado yesterday using my D300s as a video camera with mixed results

Thanks for the kind comment! It's a Panasonic HDC-SD 300 I think (it's at home and I am away for Christmas!). All edited with Adobe Premier Elements. Merry Christmas!
