82045 The way ahead?

I overlooked to mention the ongoing efforts of our über-paint meister and colleagues who have prevented the steel from following it's natural tendency to convert itself into a number of hydrated iron oxides.

Yes, many thanks for the June update. The future of our steam heritage is secure looking at the photo of the young supporter and the frames of 82045 which are about the same age! What with this good news and the unveiling of the Bomber Command Memorial yesterday I think my office is a bit dusty this morning or I've got something irritating my eyes.

 

I understand that the LH motion bracket has been delivered to Bridgnorth. Will be interesting to see it mounted, swiftly followed by preparation for riverting.

 

Although I wasn't present when it was fitted to the frames on Monday I saw it in-situ yesterday.

Great news. One question I have is do you have the wheelsets for the front and rear truck? You also say that you expect to have a rolling chassis for mid 2014, would this include motion? Cheers Gavin

 

No we don't have the wheelsets for the front and rear pony trucks at present. A pattern does exist for the pony wheels owned by another organisation. We propose to progress with the six driving wheels first although some patternmaking has begun for some of the castings for the front pony truck assembly and another loco owning organisation has patternmaking underway for the rear BR Standard pony truck assembly castings.

Nothing is set in stone on dates, it is just an aspiration to aim for 2014. As always the rate of progress is dependent on financial support and this includes progress with the motion.

There is certainly some good news in the December newsletter. Wheels to be ordered in the new year, Money for cylinders now in hand, con-rod forgings purchased, friendly alliance with another group to share the build of two pony trucks being investigated, membership soon to pass 500, new royal patron..............

Its starting to look good. All the best for 2013.

Hi Guys,
I'm not sure if this has been asked earlier in the thread. You believe/markets this as an ideal locomotive for preserved lines in the future. How much less would you expect the next engine/s to cost now that all the patterns are/ will be in existence by the time you have finished ?

 

Hi, it`s very difficult to put a figure on it at this stage. When the job is finished we will have a much better idea. Certainly patternmaking is expensive so there would be savings to be made on any further locos of this type just by reusing the patterns we are making now.
